The German start-up mo:re is doing its part to end animal testing. It’s developing a laboratory robot that can build tiny human-derived organs that can be more effectively utilized to test the safety and efficacy of new medicines than outdated and cruel animal testing. By using a robot to build these organs instead of humans, organ production will be faster, more accurate, and more cost-effective. The use of artificial intelligence helps ensure accuracy. Using animals results in slow and inaccurate drug development not to mention immense suffering. Mo:re’s resounding goal is to end animal testing by 2035 by contributing to novel, human-based methods that are more humane, relevant, and reliable than animal experimentation. https://lnkd.in/gzaMt4Ra

Alhamdulilah! Our hands-on training manual is now available in Faculty of Veterinary Science, UAF. It is written while keeping in view the needs of beginners who want to step into the field of computational biology. The major topics of this manual includes: Databases, Performing BLAST and phylogenetic analysis. It also contains a brief insight of R language and making publication ready graphs while using it.

The science of bionics in medical research is exciting but when it comes to deafening kittens and cats, it is not such an exciting prospect. Our recent webpage looks at such research and the limitations of translating animal results to the human condition. https://lnkd.in/geK_REHF While we acknowledge that there is not currently a validated non-animal method that could be used to answer every research question investigated by researchers, we are strongly of the view that these invasive, prolonged, and often fatal experiments on non-consenting kittens and cats are unethical and that the interests of cats need to receive higher prioritisation when balancing ethics approval. This is such an important point in the debate of shifting the balance towards human based alternative methods. I can’t count how many times I have encountered this bias in perr review processes, even in the choice of speakers for conferences. It is not that animal studies should not be reported, but that alternatives to animal testing should be seen and accepted in those fields where the scientific data exists to support their equivalency without biases. Or even better the comparison should be between animal vs human in vivo result relevance and alternative methods vs human in vivo. Because if we are going to be accurate in our understanding of our biology or medical conditions or toxicological responses, we need to think like scientists and realize what we want to equalize.

A YouGov poll commissioned by Animal Free Research UK has revealed that 63% of voters support the #Government taking steps to accelerate the replacement of animals in medical research with human-specific technologies like organ-on-a-chip and computer modelling. Human specific technologies used in medical research are based on human biology, rather than animal biology. These cutting-edge methods offer results that are directly applicable to humans, and humans only, meaning researchers are not hampered by the pitfalls of attempting to translate research undertaken in animals to humans. This type of medical research takes advantage of advancements in science and technology and uses it to study human diseases in order to benefit humans, all without animal suffering. "Towards a new 3R era in experimental research" - The aim of the topic is to address key issues for the further development and implementation of the 3R concept. The increasing acceptance of the 3Rs principle has led to innovative research in a variety of research areas. Already 36 articles have been published in this collection on current progress and challenges, but also on future opportunities. Can we please stop saying “Alternatives” to Animal Testing? This implies choice. It’s a REPLACEMENT NAM’s are not all New Approach Methods or Methodologies, some have been around for years! NAM’s are NON ANIMAL METHODS. Just thought I would clear that up for those who are confused and using the wrong terminology. #nonanimalmethods #terminology Until there are only human relevant scientific methods - HRSM - I will have to keep pointing this out.
