I've never used 3D models in PCB design much before...on a whim I clicked on the 3D viewer in KiCad... and immediately saw that I had neglected to flip the header to the bottom side of the board. I *probably* would have caught the error, but it was very obvious in the 3D view. Petr Dvořák will surely appreciate this as we all know he LOVES the KiCad 3D functionality! #kicad #pcbdesign

3D modeling using KiCad and FreeCad is working very well. The process is: * add models to all your parts in KiCad. Most manufacturers now provide models on their website. The import process in KiCad is really slick with /- buttons where you can bump the model around until it is in the right place and matches the PCB footprint. * export model of PCB from KiCad in STEP format * pull PCB and enclosure models into FreeCad. Move/rotate them until everything is aligned. Again, use the /- buttons to bump things around. And you get something like below. It is a lot of fun, give it a try!
