Last week, ENCO Engineering and Consulting srl proudly hosted another EU-FUND project called SYMBA. ♻ The SYMBA EU Project is dedicated to crafting an innovative Industrial Symbiosis (IS) methodology that can be replicated across the European Union, with a focus on tailoring solutions to local and regional bio-based ecosystems. Our goal is to implement a user-friendly and accessible AI database that suggests regional IS innovative processes, paving the way for the creation of zero-waste value chains. 🔄💚 Additionally, we are committed to performing a well-defined Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) framework for industrial symbiosis evaluation in bio-based industrial ecosystems. It's time to talk about biotech! (sorry, again 😁) As the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 slowly comes to an end, it is important to highlight the relentless efforts made to advance biotech and biomanufacturing in the EU agenda and its significant outcomes. 🇪🇺 Over the last 6 months, the Council successfully adopted the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) and the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), into which #biotech has successfully found its way in. Furthermore, the recent Competitiveness Council conclusions are encouraging (!), as they highlight the need to "recognise biotechnology as an elementary part of the EU’s industrial policy". The next months, with a new European Parliament, new Commission mandate and new Presidency of the Council are critical to keep the momentum for biotechnology - and we will keep on working!
