IoT now starts and ends with the device. We're seeing a rise in designers and developers who are looking to boost device functionality with smart modules, multiple connectivity – or radio access technology (RAT) – capabilities, the early application of AI and machine learning and utilisation of more granular sensors that can collect and analyse inputs across multiple data points. Learn more in Eseye's sponsored article (pp.28-32) in the latest IoT Now Magazine.

Internet of things is an idea from computer science: connecting ordinary things like lights and doors to a computer network to make them "intelligent". An embedded system or a computer connects each thing together in a network and to the internet. Some technologies used for the internet of things are RFID and mesh nets. The connections allow each thing to collect and exchange data, and we can control them remotely or by setting rules or chains of actions. IoT improves the ease of life of humans and their daily activities. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020. #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

***Integrated antennas for IoT applications: electrical specifications and measurements*** Nowadays, the use of IoT devices is increasing. The antennas embedded within these apparatus, even if hidden, are fundamental in order to guarantee the connectivity and too often substantial differences between the information contained in the antenna datasheet and their real performance are noticed. If you happened, you know how troublesome it is not to get the expected performance from your device due to a poor quality antenna. In this technical paper you’ll find the main electrical characteristics of the integrated antennas for IoT applications and how to carry out characterization measurements in order to obtain certain and reliable results. https://lnkd.in/gnsnccBt

In most European countries, network coverage for NB-IoT and LTE-M - two standards necessary for data transmission in some IoT devices - is good. However, in some places the connectivity is poor, which hinders the rollout of IoT sensor networks that rely on these standards. There are also noticeable differences between cities and the countryside. If the necessary IoT infrastructure is lacking, data collection will not be possible, which will have a knock-on effect on citizen participation. An early risk assessment is needed to understand which devices can and cannot be used in the area of interest to minimise possible future disruptions to a citizen science experiment. https://lnkd.in/dz5jvGrB
