This lovely article series by Remarkably celebrates Black History Month in the US and LGBTQIA History Month in the UK. I am fortunate to work with a team that views #inclusivity and #intersectionality as fundamental components of brand building, strategy, and learning and development, not just buzzwords!

🌈 Reflecting on the activism of the 50s and 60s, we recognize nearly two decades of dedication, marked by blood, sweat, tears, and immense courage. These efforts have brought us to the buds and sprouts of progress we see today, but our journey is far from over! ↳ These 20 years have significantly raised awareness of LGBTQIA struggles, culminating in the Stonewall Riots in San Francisco, 1969. A moment, driven by the patrons of the Stonewall Inn, boldly declared "enough is enough" against systemic wrongdoings and normalized injustices. ↳ Looking back, it's crucial to remember the collective strength we hold as a community, society, and humanity to enact change. When discussing Intersectionality and Dimensions of Diversity I had a leader say he didn’t want to know that I was gay nor hear about my husband…. Well… Positive 2SLGBTQIA representation is crucial as it fosters acceptance, educates about diversity and empowers individuals. By breaking stereotypes and showcasing diverse experiences, it promotes equality and inclusion. When everyone sees themselves reflected in media, it helps build a more understanding and compassionate society, ensuring that all people feel valued, respected, and understood. #HappyPrideSeason

There are over 491 anti-LGBTQ bills in the US right now, including multiple in Ohio. Ohio Anti-LGBTQ legislation includes the HB 6 Trans Sport Ban, HB 8 which forces the outing of children and includes vague bans on educational content, HB 68 Ban on Gender Affirming care, HB 183 Inclusive Bathroom Ban, HB 151/ SB 83 Don’t Say Gay, and the new HB 245 Drag Ban. These bills are overreaching and designed to restrict the rights of LGBTQIA people. If you have never had your right to go to the bathroom legislated, you may not understand the gravity of these bills, and their far-reaching affects. Many of these bills override medical professionals and are not backed by science. Gender Affirming Care is suicide prevention. Transwomen deserve to play sports. There is no research or data to support that drag causes harm, and people who are not transgender are being arrested in Florida for using the "wrong bathroom" because they don't appear masculine or feminine "enough". One of my biggest fears as the Pride Resource Group founder and lead is that I have created rainbow targets for LGBTQIA people in a world and society that is not safe for us. Today, and everyday, I stand with my transgender and nonbinary siblings. Did you know that 1 in 5 LGBTQIA individuals face negative comments at work, and over a third feel pressure to hide their true selves? (Stonewall) These realities are unacceptable. 🌈✨ This Pride Month, let's celebrate progress while acknowledging the work to be done for LGBTQIA inclusion. Inclusive workplaces benefit everyone. Here's how you can be an ally: 🏳️🌈 Speak up: Challenge discrimination and promote acceptance. 🏳️🌈 Educate yourself: Learn about LGBTQIA experiences and history. 🏳️🌈 Promote open dialogue: Create safe spaces for honest communication. Appreciate John Daniel McCourt and ADWEEK for shedding light on a lot of what I have and currently experience. Working in the DEI (specifically in #advertising) space as a Queer Trans Non-Binary Latine -- I often dialogue with clients to reconsider what actually supporting the #LGBQTIA2S community is, especially in light of #Project25 and with more than 600 anti-trans bills currently being considered in the U.S - 63 of which are federal. Whether it's about employee experiences, workplace culture, or the creative - the work we do needs to be humanity focused and purpose lead. It requires everyone regardless of identity. In corporate, we need to actively and directly partner with the community. In addition to being a DEI professional, I'm a Non-Binary drag artist and the influence drag has had on culture is undeniable. We do more than just lipsync at your company's Pride Happy Hour, in fact, I've started showing up to some corporate networking events in drag just so the art form is taken seriously outside of a bar & entertainment environment. I encourage you to bring (AND PAY EQUITABLY) drag kings, queens, artists, activists, and performers to these strategy conversations, you might learn something. And for the folks in the LGBTQIA2S community (especially intersecting identities) - navigating corporate and today's world has felt heavy (at least for me). I'm still here though, striving to break stereotypes and barriers, and most importantly ensuring these conversations don't just stop at the end of Pride Month. It's imperative now more than ever. However you feel, remember to take care of yourself and that you're not alone.
