Is your business compliant with all of the regulations applicable to your biggest asset and the most troubling department - your employees? Are you even aware of them? Do you know that the USEEOC (US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) has just issued its SEP (Strategic Enforcement Plan) for 2024 through 2028? The SEP will TARGET (identify to investigate and sue) average businesses that engage, according to the EEOC or your employees, in discrimination, bias, hate, restricting legally protected rights, or other violations. Does your business have appropriate policies and procedures in place? Do you clearly communicate with your employees? Is your business compliant with salary transparency and other applicable regulations as they pertain to advertising your available positions and hiring practices? Come learn about these and other potential pitfalls at our Legal Primer seminar, presented with C4 Talent and Carol C. Fraser. Activate to view larger image,

Are your staff contractors or employees? Do you know the differences? When it comes to determining what category members of your agency fall under, it is essential you get it right. Because if not, you could land yourself in legal and reputational hot waters with the Fair Work Commission, the court, your employees, and your clients. Don’t just rely on what your agreement with your staff labels them. Your relationship with them will also play a significant part in determining whether they are contractors or employees - especially by the courts. That’s why we’ve put together a simple Litmus Test you can use to figure out if your team member is a contractor or employee by taking a deep dive into your working relationship with a quick, indicative test. President & CEO of CBIA, Connecticut’s largest business organization. Working with affiliates CONNSTEP and ReadyCT to build a thriving business climate for the benefit of all residents.
Truly remarkable work by this amazing team! More than 2000 bills introduced and this group had to dive into each one to understand implications on our businesses - the backbone of Connecticut’s economy via the careers they create, the state revenue they generate, and the opportunities that they provide our residents from their first job to being able to afford their first car, first apartment, first house, and so much more. Businesses that provide the 5th highest wages in the country, one of the most productive workforces, and the safest workplaces in the world. The employer-employee relationship is strong in Connecticut - no need for government to get in the middle. Instead focus on policies that address Connecticut’s challenges like making the state more affordable for residents and businesses, less onerous regulations, and more efficient government and processes. Don’t create policies that are looking for problems that don’t exist. Cheers to the CBIA policy team and the great companies and their employees that they fight for!
The 2024 legislative session has come to a close (my first at CBIA), and I am proud to have led this group of outstanding policy lobbyists advocating on the behalf of Connecticut's job creators. I was lucky to have inherited our team a couple of months before the session began, and the entire team truly exceeded all expectations. Covering every legislative committee on a multitude of issues on behalf of our member employers is no easy task, but it is certainly made easier by this group of dedicated and knowledgeable policy advocates. Last night, Black Door Law Associate, Scott Balloch, joined Wallace Chapman on Radio New Zealand’s, The Panel, to discuss the Government’s proposal to prevent contractors from challenging their employment status through the Courts. Given the rise of the ‘gig economy’ and changes to the way that we work (the use of technology and remote-working), perhaps it is time for Parliament to review the current framework. In the meanwhile, we will eagerly await the Court of Appeal’s decision on the employee/contractor decision in the Uber case. What do you think – is the current framework working? https://lnkd.in/gyqmbnVU

Founding Partner at Cook Craig & Francuzenko, PLLC. Former member, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
This should be an excellent discussion. This weird issue has quickly become one of the most important issues in non-compete law because the practical implications are extremely significant. More importantly, the meeting is followed by a happy hour :)
Fairfax Employment Lawyers: Join us on June 25 for a discussion moderated by Richard Batzler about challenging Virginia non-competes in 2024. Our focus is on a widening intra-circuit split about the proper use of pleas in bar -- with guidance from practitioners who have recently argued over this very topic: Taylor Chapman, Kristen Loesch, Elizabeth Payne-Maddalena. Come for the talk, stay for the happy hour! https://lnkd.in/ex6gHFwW
