Congratulations to our May Caregiver of the month, Raquel Leake. Raquel came to us as a PCA and has worked her way up to become a CNA. She has made a major impact on her clients life since being his caretaker. She is very patient and has a calming manner which comes in handy for some clients who are a little difficult at times. We are glad to have you on the AHR team! We had a chance to sit down with Raquel and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say: AHR: Why did you choose to be a Caregiver Raquel: I have always been passionate about my family, I will do anything for them and I always think about other people before myself and I wanted to spread that, because everyone is someone’s family AHR: What makes you the most excited about working with seniors? Raquel: I love my Grannie more than anything in the world and I figured that seniors are other people's grandparents and I want them to have the same care that I would give my loved ones! AHR: What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field Raquel: Be patient, compassionate, ask questions! Always check in with your elderly companions. Explore new ways to help them. Never say “no” say “I will try” or “we can figure it out” AHR: What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond? Raquel: I like that it allows me to help people, sometimes people forget about the elderly, or overlook them. This job gives me the opportunity to care for them, sometimes beyond the job description, being able to do that for my ‘companions’ means the most to me. That’s what I do for my grannie, my companions have become like family. Raquel, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day! *Our STAR (Setting Targets Achieving Results) program recognizes Caregivers for outstanding work and dedication. Cash Incentives and rewards can be earned through our Great STARt, Shining STAR and Super STAR programs. Congratulations to our March Caregiver of the month, Dawn Ellyson. Dawn was chosen this month for her extreme dedication and reliability. She communicates proactively and makes meaningful connections with her clients and their family members. We had a chance to sit down with Dawn and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say: AHR: Why did you choose to be a Caregiver? Dawn: I chose to be a Caregiver because as a young adult I helped take care of my family (younger sister & grandparents). I quickly realized I have a knack for helping others. AHR: What makes you the most excited about working with seniors? Dawn: I get excited working with seniors. I enjoy listening to their life experiences & learning from their knowledge. AHR: What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field? Dawn: I advise other Caregivers just starting out in the caregiving field to put yourself in your clients shoes. Ask questions and listen to what the client and families need. Be patient, kind, and empathetic. AHR: What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond? Dawn: It’s a privilege to work with the professionals at Assisting Hands. I truly feel as if I’m making a difference in the lives of our clients and their families. It’s time for men to commit to doing a fairer share of the care work at home, and men around the world are being invited to do just that. With the MenCare 50/50 commitment, men can share how they show up as dedicated, present caregivers to their grandparents, parents, partners, community, children, etc. We know many men already provide care, and it’s important your examples of care are modeled to future and current caregivers. Brian P. Heilman took the commitment. Here's what he said: "I took the MenCare 50/50 Commitment because it's important to take visible responsibility and accountability for living a truly equal life at home. Plus, the work of supporting my family members, looking after the house, and keeping open, empathetic communication at all times isn't a burden or chore, it's what helps me feel whole as a human being." Will you make the MenCare 50/50 commitment and show the world that men are committed to a fairer share of the work at home? https://lnkd.in/eSRMgBw9

🌟 November is National Caregiver Month! Let’s take a moment to honor and celebrate the incredible caregivers who dedicate their time, love, and energy to support their loved As a caregiver, I’ve learned a few valuable strategies that I’d love to share: 1️⃣ Patience and Empathy: It’s essential to listen and understand their needs, emotions, and fears. 2️⃣ Self-Care: Don’t forget to take care of yourself too. You can’t pour from an empty cup. 3️⃣ Build a Support Network: Reach out to friends, family, or support groups for guidance and a helping hand. 4️⃣ Stay Informed: Knowledge is power. Learn about the medical condition to better advocate for your loved one. 5️⃣ Celebrate Small Wins: Every milestone, no matter how small, is a reason to rejoice. Let’s show our special respect and gratitude to all caregivers out there. You are unsung heroes, and your love makes a world of difference. 💪❤️ #NationalCaregiverMonth #CaregiversRock #SupportAndLove
