Voice-cloning AI, which is the technology that enables the replication of a person’s voice, can assist researchers with collecting and analyzing data from different languages, dialects, and accents. Voice-cloning AI is versatile and finds applications in various creative domains. Yet, the same technology presents substantial risks, particularly for families and small businesses vulnerable to exploitation by cybercriminals. Read our full article here: https://buff.ly/3PTmTVG

1/ AI algorithms trained on biased human data can create a dangerous feedback loop in which people blindly accept flawed AI decisions without learning from them, according to psychologist Joe Árvai. 2/ The researcher argues that AI robs people of the opportunity to practice making thoughtful, defensible decisions by considering alternatives, seeking information, and delaying closure until after careful deliberation. 3/ While AI may offer benefits in complex domains such as cybersecurity and finance, the researcher believes that we must resist the temptation to outsource our everyday decisions to AI to preserve our ability to think and choose for ourselves.

🤖 LLMs are both flawed and capable 👤 Humans are both flawed and capable. Which is better❓ Do we hold both to the same standards❓ Are we biased when evaluating technology❓ Are we scared of technology❓ It's an interesting thought experiment to: 1️⃣ select a task (e.g. writing a blog) 2️⃣ list the flaws of delegating the task to a human, and how you mitigate against each 3️⃣ list the flaws of delegating the task to an LLM, and how you mitigate against each 4️⃣ Then review both lists and ask the question, "Are we just not doing enough to mitigate for the flaws of LLMs?" Let's take "Hallucinations" - This is one of the biggest "flaws" I'm hearing as an excuse for not adopting Generative AI. The reality is that humans "hallucinate" (aka "make sh*t up") too, and the way managers mitigate against it is by: i) making sure they are trained and knowledgeable on the subject; ii) giving them clear and detailed instructions; and then iii) reviewing their output before approving it This should be exactly the same for LLMs! Part of the workflow for any LLM based solution needs to involve good training, clear prompting and a human-in-the-loop to validate the output. What I find interesting with LLMs, is (1) you can get another LLM to do the initial review for you; and (2) you can build a system around them (as you can with any technology) to ensure it's constantly improving at the task. At it's core, "we" are not very well educated on LLMs, and as a result we're biased when evaluating their capabilities, in large part because of the emotional driver that we're scared of the technology replacing us. This is the reality with the introduction of any new technology. #humanintheloop #generativeai #LLMs #digitaltransformation
LLMs are both flawed and capable. Too many people like to focus on just one of those aspects, but I would love to see more research seriously consider the cases under which the capabilities for making life better clearly outweigh the flaws. The AI does not have to beat all human experts at a task to be useful to many people. https://lnkd.in/eAJTxEaU

AI vs. Human Expertise: A New Benchmark. But is human standard still the peak? How to Gauge AI's Real Impact - 3 Steps --- In the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), the question often arises: Can AI outperform the best humans in specific tasks? This concept introduced here is the "Best Available Human (BAH) Standard." It's a benchmark to evaluate whether AI technologies have surpassed human expertise in various fields. The article on One Useful Thing by Ethan Mollick introduces this concept, highlighting its importance in fields like entrepreneurship and coaching. The BAH Standard isn't about AI replacing humans entirely; it's about understanding where AI can be more effective than even the best human expertise available. To effectively evaluate AI against this standard, there are three crucial criteria to consider - accessibility, reliability and performance. This framework provides a pragmatic approach to assessing the utility of AI. This week I invested good amount of time working with my team to augment thier skills with GPT, and this approach really resonated with me. Mostly - clear communication, data analysis and UI iteration & feedback. Did you find any useful tricks to better work with your team with AI?

Will artificial intelligence be a friend or foe to those who build it? This question has intrigued both tech professionals and the general public for decades. To gauge the IT industry’s perception of AI today, SolarWinds has produced the 2024 IT Trends Report. We asked 700 IT professionals: Are you optimistic or apprehensive about AI? Will AI make our lives easier or increase stress? What are enterprises’ primary concerns and barriers in integrating AI? Their answers revealed a tension in the industry’s outlook on AI. Many are excited by its potential to dramatically enhance productivity, but there are significant worries around database performance, data quality, security, and more. I’m a rare blend of full-stack tech lead (focus on Microsoft stack), team builder, founder, and generative AI pioneer. Passionate about innovation and collaboration culture. I succeed in roles that leverage this mix.
Really great observation and not one that is getting enough balanced attention I think.
