Manorwood Homes, a Cavco company, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International to build modular homes for deserving families. These factory-built modular homes are constructed to high quality standards in less time than traditional stick-built homes. This innovative approach to working smarter, not harder, is the perfect way to expand Habitat's impact in the communities it serves. “It’s been our absolute pleasure to build our relationship with Manorwood Homes (Cavco),” said Maureen Lashlee, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, New York. “At a time when America is experiencing a housing crisis, Manorwood Homes has helped us grow from building one house every two years to building five houses in one year.” Looking ahead, Manorwood Homes and Habitat for Humanity are gearing up for several new projects. In Ulster County, they will break ground on a 10-lot subdivision this fall, featuring eight Manorwood modular homes and two stick-built homes. Dutchess County has another ranch home on order, with groundbreaking for a five-lot subdivision planned for spring. Similar plans are underway in Monroe, Steuben and Orange counties. With Manorwood’s homebuilding expertise and Habitat for Humanity’s reach, this partnership has a bright future of providing quality homes to families that need them and making a significant contribution to combatting the affordable housing crisis. #modularhousing #manufacturing #construction #community #positivity #givingback

Rhinelander, WI: Congratulations to David Havel and Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin for doubling new home production, with aspirations for further growth! Every day, in communities large and small around the globe, Habitat staff and volunteers build and advocate to move us closer to our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. “There’s a big need for affordable housing. Our mission is to help families find affordable housing. It’d be nice if we could do 100 a year, but we do the best we can. We’ve been doing one a year. Now this is the first time two a year. We’re hoping to maybe get up to three or four. The more we can do the better,” said Executive Director Dave Havel. Sharing a letter from the Terwilliger Center's Advisory Committee at Bipartisan Policy Center urging swift passage of the Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY) Act. #YIMBY would require U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant recipients to report on any efforts within their respective jurisdictions to reform zoning and land use policies to support additional #affordablehousing supply. Examples of pro-housing efforts include: enacting high-density single-family and multifamily zoning, allowing manufactured homes in areas zoned primarily for single-family residential homes, reducing minimum lot sizes, streamlining or shortening permitting processes and timelines, and eliminating or reducing off-street parking requirements. Regulatory policies too often delay or prevent the construction of new affordable homes and impede economic development. #YIMBY aims to encourage local communities to reduce these regulatory barriers and take steps to address our nation’s severe shortage of affordable homes. Thanks to: Ron Terwilliger, Ed Brady, Scott Brown, Henry Cisneros, Carlos Curbelo, Shaun Donovan, Renee Lewis Glover, Terri Ludwig, Jeb Mason, Shekar Narasimhan, Pamela Patenaude, Egbert Perry, Erika Poethig, and Steve Stivers for encouraging #Congress to take action.

Can-Do Waterloo Region: Habitat for Humanity’s Ambitious Housing Plan In early August, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region and the local development community unveiled a groundbreaking initiative: the construction of 10,000 homes in Waterloo Region by 2030, each priced at half of their market value. This bold and visionary goal signifies a stride toward addressing our region's pressing housing crisis. It marks a turning point where a comprehensive action plan is taking center stage to confront this crisis head-on, with the development community participating in the solution. Collaboration between the public and private sectors will be key to achieving this milestone. This initiative is truly shaping a future where everyone has a place to call home. #WaterlooRegion #AffordableHousing #RealEstateImpact #CommunityDevelopment #SouthernOntarioInvestmentTeam

Did you know that for every home we build in Windsor-Essex, we pay $65,000 in HST? Over time, it adds up – for every 50 homes Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex builds, 10 more could have been built if we didn’t need to pay HST. It’s the main point we’re making today as we join independent Habitat affiliates from across the province for our first-ever Habitat at Queen’s Park Day. We’re meeting with MPPs, staff and officials to discuss solutions to address our housing affordability crisis. Working together, we can remove barriers and unlock the benefits of homeownership for working families to create a more equitable Windsor-Essex. #HabitatQP2024 #HabitatON

Many communities know that affordable housing is an issue affecting more and more of their residents, but they're not sure where to start in addressing the problem. 🏘 PAHRC and the National Low Income Housing Coalition teamed up mySidewalk to create an Affordable Housing Preservation Toolkit. 🛠 This resource helps local affordable housing advocates understand their housing stock and assess preservation risks in their communities. It also equips them with ideas to shore up their local housing preservation efforts. 💡 Each toolkit can be customized to a specific geography of interest, providing locally specific data from the National Housing Preservation Database and examining five opportunities for community partners to consider when creating an affordable housing preservation plan.
