Common Myths About Solar Energy "Let's debunk a few common myths about solar energy. One myth is that solar panels don't work on cloudy days. While they are most effective in direct sunlight, they can still generate electricity on cloudy days. Another myth is that solar energy is too expensive. While the initial cost can be high, prices have dropped significantly, and there are many financial incentives available." "I'd love to hear from you! Community solar stands as a beacon of hope for equitable clean energy. 🌞 But, is it living up to its promise? As recent insights from Wood Mackenzie's "US Solar Market Insight: 2022 Year in Review" have shown, solar energy isn't just about sustainability; it's about equity. With climate change disproportionately impacting marginalized communities, access to clean energy is a justice issue that demands our attention. A glance at studies like those by Sunter et al. (2019) and Lukanov & Krieger (2019) reveals stark disparities in solar adoption. The affluent have long benefited, while lower-income households face barriers. Thankfully, community solar projects offer a ray of hope, with innovative models proliferating across the US. Community solar has the potential to democratize energy access, as NREL's work suggests. It's not just about installing panels on rooftops; it's about co-creating solutions that consider the socioeconomic fabric of communities. By enabling shared benefits from solar generation, we empower those who've been sidelined in the clean energy revolution. Moreover, studies like Heeter et al. (2021) and Forrester et al. (2023) underscore the urgent need for policies that ensure these projects genuinely serve low and moderate-income families. What's critical now is continued advocacy, informed policy-making, and committed action to translate potential into tangible outcomes for all. Let's pivot towards a future where clean energy is not a privilege but a right - a tool for leveling the playing field. Participate in the dialogue, stay informed, and let's harness shared solar as a vehicle for environmental and social equity. #CommunitySolar #CleanEnergyAccess #EnergyEquity

We started SOLARCYCLE partly to help the #solar industry provide real answers and sustainable, economic solutions to what happens at the end of life of these projects. Yet the cynical misinformation being pushed and funded by those opposed to clean energy has reached new lows, and truly threatens our capacity to localize our energy supply, create good family supporting jobs, and new streams of tax revenue for rural communities... not to mention putting our efforts to solve the climate crisis at risk. We must join together and stand up to these fake astro turf organizations mentioned in this article. If you are building a big solar project and need to demonstrate your plans to #recycle we can give you everything you need. The truth will win out, if we join together, keep doing the right thing and support groups like Sierra Club and Greenlight America to help mobilize communities to support these critical projects. LET'S do this!! Suvi Sharma Pablo Dias Michael Brune

An excellent article from Dr. Simon Wright on what's critical in the clean energy transition: "When these projects succeed, it’s because developers engage early and often with communities, showing them why the project matters to society – and to them. Projects are much more likely to succeed when communities feel the project is theirs or includes them". Around the early 2010s, the federal government's efforts to introduce a carbon emissions reduction scheme struggled and then failed. This was due to fierce political and media opposition and also because the government failed to effectively answer the "why?" question with the general public, and especially the communities most affected. As Chris Sounness says: "Renewable energy will thrive [in Victoria’s Wimmera Southern Mallee region] if developers and communities collaborate, the interests of the farming communities and rural towns are supported, and the benefits flow to communities". #cleanenergy #renewables #communities #sustainability #climatechange

🌞 Solar Savings Within Reach 🌞 Did you know solar panels could slash your energy bill by $1,500 annually? Yet, the hefty $15,000 to $27,000 starting cost hinders many, particularly low-income families. Cleveland's #GrowthOpps, a company set to eliminate these costs through clever use of tax breaks and grants. Their initiative, backed by a $156 million EPA grant, will outfit solar panels in low-income areas across eight states, empowering communities and fostering sustainability without the setup expense. In places like Maple Heights with a 22% poverty rate, the impact could be life-changing. Celebrate this innovative stride towards a sustainable future. #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation Let's champion such ingenuity and encourage more companies to drive change like Growth Opportunity Partners, Inc. Way to go Growth Opps!
Empowering Communities with Clean Energy: #GrowthOpps was recently featured showcasing how we, through our Industrial Heartland Solar Coalition initiative, are making solar energy free and accessible in low-income neighborhoods across Cleveland, the state of Ohio, and 7 additional states across 31 communities thanks to a recently awarded $156 million EPA grant. Our innovatove approach and model not only aims to alleviate high energy burden on families like Danielle Swift's, but also to pave the way for a sustainable future.
