This is a great article on how the US is behind Europe in healthcare innovation. Here is a takeaway from the article. "According to global manufacturers, the U.S. is behind the ball on the sustainability front, and they cite two main reasons. First, it’s not required. It seems to be an American trait that if we aren’t forced to do something, we won’t. Second, upgraded products that meet the European sustainability requirements are more costly. In the states, we still prioritize price when purchasing."  As we attempt to improve hand hygiene by replacing ABHR which does not have Non-Enveloped viral efficacy and causes dermal damage that reduces compliance we are running into obstacles that refuse to recognize these facts because it is easier to do nothing. The UK and Europe use HOCI for Hand and Surface Sanitization which does have Norovirus efficacy and will repair damage to hands from ABHR.

Sustainability is a hot topic in the #eventsindustry and too often, aspects of the supply chain are labelled as the enemy of its continued progress. The immediate cessation or removal of certain items within the industry without first understanding those services is not the answer and will not in the long term, have the desired effect of making our industry more sustainable. Not only can it ostracise the suppliers that help make our fantastic events possible, but it also has a knock-on effect on exhibitors and organisers as well. ESSA Director Andrew Harrison spoke to Exhibition News about how this point of view needs to be extinguished and instead replaced with a triangle of understanding between the supplier, the organiser and the exhibitor in order to make real progress on our collective sustainable journey. We still have a long way to go, but let’s be ambitious and together let’s strategise, not demonise, to ensure our industry is a sustainable one now and in the future. Yesterday, our colleagues Niklas Baus and Michael Leitl attended the 9. edition of the highly successful Effizienz Forum Wirtschaft in Münster. This time, the spotlight was on a crucial topic - Sustainable Production and Business. Here are some key takeaways and reflections from the event. To truly achieve sustainable production and management, it is imperative that we: 1. Implement a framework of programs on sustainable consumption and production. 2. Strive for the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources. 3. Make concerted efforts to reduce waste along production and supply chains. 4. Promote sustainable public procurement. 5. Adopt resource-efficient processes and empower employees through training. 6. Create products that minimize harm and, through their very existence, actually help restore the natural ecosystem.
