Germany, all eyes are on you. 👀 The EU supply chain law is teetering on the brink. What we thought was a mere formality is now in danger. The European Supply Chain Act was negotiated intensively for three years. The core of the directive is to create a clear legal framework for companies to protect people, the climate, and the environment. In mid-December 2023, an agreement was reached between the Parliament and the Commission - including many compromises on the part of the German government. The vote in the Council of the European Union was only a formality. Now, Germany wants to refrain from participating in the vote. At ARMEDANGELS, we are convinced that companies fundamentally must respect human and environmental rights in their value chains. As a globally operating business, we must also take on global responsibility. People and planet are at the core of our DNA, and every decision that we take is based on our strict standards: from design to material selection, from manufacturing to our head quarters, from our partners to our customers. We are far from perfect, but we are convinced that this is the only way to go. And we all need to go it together. Please check out Fashion Changers for steps that you can take to urge those responsible to act. https://lnkd.in/eT7rd-ye

Would it be more of an advantage or a disadvantage if the PPWR is not adopted in April 2024 and the cap remains open at least until after the European elections in June? As B P Consultants, we are asked this question again and again. The short answer: It would be more of a disadvantage, because the defragmentation of the European packaging market would continue. Even if the PPWR does not (or not yet) materialise, political objectives such as “design for recycling” and “prevention of packaging waste” will not fall by the wayside. They will then be implemented by the individual nation states according to their own judgement. Article written by Jenny Walther-Thoss https://lnkd.in/eGxyYZGC

The CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion proposed repealing the German Supply Chain Act (#LkSG). Similarly, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Robert Habeck, made a similar proposal, seemingly without prior coordination with the Green Party. While a suspension of the LkSG seems unlikely, but as far as we understand for the time being not out of the question. Removing reporting requirements seems more likely. Repealing the LkSG would severely impact companies dedicated to human rights and environmental protection. Under the pretext of "bureaucratic overload," there's an attempt to suspend a democratically passed law protecting human rights. This isn't in the "general interest of businesses", as it penalizes the efforts made to implement the law. The so-called "First Movers" – often medium-sized enterprises – are being disadvantaged. The EU #CSDDD is upcoming and requires preparation, and the LkSG serves this purpose for German companies. At atlat, we want to contribute to a #future-oriented and #responsible economy that integrates #sustainability, #humanrights, #transparency, and #profitable business.

On Wednesday, MEPs will be voting to adopt the European Parliament’s position on #PPWR. Ahead of the Plenary vote on this key legislative file, AIM Brands reiterate the importance of adopting a balanced ⚖ approach in the definition of minimisation requirements for packaging. The upcoming rules need to take into account both sustainability targets ✅ and other EU objectives 🎯 such as fostered innovation and competitiveness, and legislation, including the respect of intellectual property (#IP) rights. Our call to EU legislators 👇 https://lnkd.in/eMVGTRtz European Parliament #Brands4Sustainability #Brands4Competitiveness #Brands4Consumers #packagingminimisation
