Effective teamwork is the foundation of successful security operations, requiring the integration of principles from various disciplines. It involves optimizing individual strengths and compensating for weaknesses, similar to how an efficient market balances supply and demand. In security, the whole is often greater than its parts, and teamwork involves leveraging individual skills to create a cohesive unit. Understanding individual and group psychology is crucial for forming cohesive security teams, including motivation, group dynamics, and conflict resolution. Training programs should emphasise trust and open communication, teaching personnel to collaborate, share information, and support each other in high-pressure situations. In large events, teamwork is essential for coordination, communication, and situational awareness. Quick decision-making, delegation of responsibilities, and mutual support are critical. Realistic simulation exercises can help teams practice coordination and quick decision-making under stress. Structured team-building activities can strengthen interpersonal relationships and improve communication skills, fostering unity and a common purpose among team members. Building teamwork skills in security personnel is a holistic process that draws from economic principles, psychological insights, and practical security knowledge. #security #securitytraining #securityawareness #teamwork #crowdcontrol #communication #motivation #groupdynamics #grouppyschology #crowdpsychology #simulations #teambuildingactivities #economics

Do you supervise people? This is a great checklist to keep in mind when having one-on-one meetings with them. Ensuring you check all six boxes will lay a solid foundation for trust and psychological safety in your supervisory relationships. #USC #USCMarshall #Culture #Wellbeing #PsychologicalSafety #Trust #Leadership
Well-being? Capability? Trust? That’s what great #managers are investing in every time they dedicate time for 1:1 #meetings with their #team. Granted, #psychologicalsafety isn’t necessarily an outcome of a strong 1-1 practice, but the fact that team members know their manager dedicates focused time for them lays a foundation of security, even if they have nothing urgent to discuss (and of course, let’s not mistake urgent for important!). 1:1 meetings should be: - Regular - Dedicated - Unrushed - In a comfortable space - Focused on the team member - Structured (or intentionally unstructured) All in all, we find it useful to view 1-1s as an investment in the future of your team members: you’re investing in their #wellbeing, their capability, and their #trust – so that when something happens that they need to tell you about, they will – without having to worry about asking for your time first. 1-1’s are great for handling the stuff that is non-urgent, but most important. Invest in psychological safety. Invest in your team. [email protected]
