As we venture through #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth, let’s demystify another term often shrouded in enigma: Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). Sounds spooky, right? 👻 But, let’s break it down one time for the one time! Imagine a highly skilled & patient burglar who doesn’t just break into a house on a whim, but meticulously studies the routines, finds hidden keys, & strikes with precision when least expected. In the digital realm, this burglar epitomizes an Advanced Persistent Threat. APTs aren’t your run-of-the-mill cyber-attacks. They are long-term, stealthy infiltrations by adversaries who are out to steal data or cause lasting damage. Unlike a smash-n-grab, they’re more of a covert operation, often undetected, lurking in the shadows of our networks. Understanding APTs highlights the importance of not just having a good lock on our doors but having vigilant eyes on our digital premises, watching for unusual activities that may signify a lurking threat. Together, we’re not just stronger, but smarter & safer. #AdvancedPersistentThreats #APTs #Cybersecurity #CyberAware #DigitalResilience #StaySafeOutHere

These are hard times for companies, and the instinctive move for CFOs is to cut funding for activities that are not directly generating revenue. This may, however, prove to be a costly decision...
"No fires last year, so let’s cut back on smoke detectors!" said no person ever, but how about “No successful cyber-attacks last year, so let’s cut back on the cybersecurity budget”? You need someone in your corner! https://hubs.li/Q02lk0pX0 #nemko #cybersecurity #cyberassurance #penetrationtesting

Pass me the salt? "Oh, just one grain." Said no one ever. Compliance is a single grain of salt. You drop that on a steak, and, yes, you can claim you salted it. Might taste it in one bite. But what good does it actually do? For cybersecurity to go from strategy into execution toward keeping your organization safe, you must venture beyond mere compliance. P.S. Did you know you can salt passwords? Whole different thing! Level of technical info - beyond this post. Pepper me with questions. As always, this is a clever and memorable post from Heather Noggle, a stellar cybersecurity expert, and excellent writer. My question is: Would low sodium dietary restrictions indicate low compliance levels? I think "food for thought" applies here, right? 🎃 #compliance #cybersecurityawarenessmonth

Sleeping with your doors unlocked in a dangerous neighborhood." This is what it feels like reading the recent audit report on US Department of State's cybersecurity program. We're living in a world where cyber threats are as real as daylight, and it's baffling to realize that one of the major arms of America's defense industry is operating on end-of-life systems with poor inventory control. What's more alarming? The auditors weren't even sure if the existing IT security measures are functioning as they should be. This is like installing a burglar alarm but not knowing if it will sound off when an intruder breaks in. As Cyber Security professionals, we understand the importance of staying updated. Using outdated systems is not just a threat to the organization but to national security. It's high time for a robust revamp. Let’s adopt a proactive approach to security, not a reactive one. We need to understand that in the world of CyberSec, the 'it won’t happen to me' mentality is a luxury we can't afford. Here's the full story: [Link](https://lnkd.in/gcVc2pms) This is a wake-up call, not just for the US Department of State but for all organizations. Let's not wait for a crisis to realize the importance of effective cybersecurity measures.

Director of Cyber Operations. 🔒Cyber Security,🛡Threat Intelligence & Hunt, 🔍SecOps, 💻Technology & Gaming, 🙋♂️Presales leader
As we start seeing companies wind down for the Christmas break, I'm taking the opportunity to get meetings booked in for January to hopefully get ahead of the New Year chaos before it gets forgotten. One of those things is our start-of-the-year National Cyber Security Centre exercise in a box session with the team. I won't disclose which exercises I'm plotting, which will span across the Micro, Tabletop and Simulation categories but as always, the idea is to test our processes and people in responding to incidents (and do something a little different from the BAU). Do I expect us to breeze through? Honestly, I hope not. I want us to identify potential issues or failures in our processes so we can fix them. I would be more concerned if nothing was raised or discovered during the exercise as I've always believed that without failure, you cannot succeed. Blindly assuming everything is perfect and everything will be fine is going to lead to a much worse outcome then facing the reality that you likely have gaps that need addressing. If you fancy meeting up in January, or even talk through some of the amazing FREE services that the NCSC provide, send me a message and we can get something arranged. #cybersecurity #planningahead #testingprocesses #exerciseinabox #nationalcybersecuritycentre #incidentresponse #incidentresponseplan #mssp
