Looking forward to discussing future R&D needs for the combustion community in a net zero society. This plenary session will be held at the 40th International Symposium on Combustion in Milan, Italy this summer. I’ll highlight the evolution of fuels from their current role as primary energy sources, to their future primary role as energy carriers. I will also survey the intersection of combustion science and technology with other societal considerations, including regulatory, environmental justice, geopolitical, and economic drivers. Finally, I will highlight implications for researchers, engineering executives, and regulatory/certification oversight bodies. Lots of important combustion R&D needs remain due to needs to increase thermal efficiency, high operational flexibility, low particulate and NOx emissions, and fuel flexibility.
With the #40thISOC fast approaching, we are excited to continue highlighting our distinguished slate of invited speakers: One of this symposium’s Plenary Lectures will be delivered by Tim Lieuwen of Georgia Institute of Technology! We thank Prof. Lieuwen for lending his expertise to the 40th ISOC. Learn more about the invited speakers: https://lnkd.in/eszfwzfm #TheCombustionInstitute #Combustion

June was a monumental month for Zayo. On the heels of Zayo’s various events celebrating our Oregon-California-Nevada long-haul route, funded in part by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the State of Nevada awarded Zayo its Middle Mile Network Project, funded by additional grants totaling $153M from the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology and, again, the NTIA. The Nevada Middle Mile Network Project will: ➡ Connect over 40,000 unserved or underserved locations between Reno and Las Vegas, including households, schools, and other critical community institutions. ➡ Accelerate economic development in Nevada by addressing growing bandwidth needs in Reno and Las Vegas for data center hubs, including artificial intelligence infrastructure, and other high-bandwidth use cases. ➡ Increase long-haul connectivity between Nevada and other key markets, including diverse connections from Reno to Phoenix and Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. We are excited to expand our strong partnership with the State of Nevada, the federal government, and local ISPs to help bridge the digital divide and stimulate long-term economic growth in Nevada and surrounding states.
