A 1 min way to validate if your idea is unique, not google, not talking to users. It starts with AI. How? AI software engineers like those from Cognition can now build an app autonomously. Soon pretty much whatever you can find on the internet can be coded quite quickly. All you have to do to validate your idea is ask the AI software engineer to try build it, see how close it gets to what you want. The closer the AI gets, the less unique your idea is. But on the other hand, it also means building an MVP has become super cheap and fast for your validation. This is probably the best characterization I have seen of the state of AI startups. There are 3 categories, but the ones that get most attention are the ones that likely don't have the staying power. They're limited by shallow moats, unclear value propositions, and rapidly changing technology. The most interesting opportunities are the ones where there is a relatively small initial market. It seems small because we are in the very early stages of the technological revolution. We're just starting to scratch the surface of how workflows and processes will change. When that evolution happens, markets grow, and those small opportunities with strong value propositions grow right along with them. This is why we love companies at Sentiero Ventures that are solving real problems that have the opportunity to be game changers as the market evolves.

This is a really cool talk on AI startups. What I found most interesting, and really hadn't thought about before watching this, is the businesses that will be created BECAUSE of the acceptance of this platform. The things that we can't envision right now. Here are a few examples: -Doordash and Uber exist because of the smartphone. Without the widespread acceptance of smartphones, those businesses don't exist. The one thing they talk about that I can't yet make myself comfortable with (probably because I'm old!) is AGI. Artificial General Intelligence creates a visceral fear response in me. I'm open to ideas and would love to hear some non-SkyNet ideas, but again because I grew up on the Terminator and Matrix movies, I've got some pretty strong biases against it! How about you?
