🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share my wife, Wendy Burnham's, latest venture: Mobility Independence! 💪 Wendy's vision to make life easier for those facing mobility challenges due to accident, disease, or unexpected struggles is one she has been working on for the last year (while also working with her mom's recovery from heart surgery). Mobility Independence is a one-stop resource directory, designed to provide answers and support during tough times for those dealing with daily challenges. Inspiration for this site came from meeting a lovely couple at The Shepherd Center. He had been shot and paralyzed from the neck down. Their world forever changed. She was struggling to find out how to even move him from Atlanta to South Carolina and had no idea where they would live or what doctors or hospitals would be available once there. "Why isn't there an easier way?" That was Wendy's question. "Why, in this digital age isn't there a resource that has everything in one place?" The information is out there, yes. But, finding it can be overwhelming when you're focused on caring for a loved one. Wendy's mission is to simplify the process and offer a helping hand when it's needed most. 🤝God never let us forget this couple and their struggles. We knew they couldn't be the only ones. So, in 2023, Wendy set out to make this website a reality. Join us as we launch this amazing new website🚀 and please share with those that would benefit from using it. How to care for children with complex needs If your child has been diagnosed with an illness, disability or sensory impairment and needs a lot of additional support on a daily basis, they're described as having "complex needs". It helps to be part of a support network so you can share ideas and benefit from each other’s experience. If your GP surgery has carers register, ask to be added. Your local authority is responsible for providing any non-medical care services your child is assessed as needing. Go Gray in May! 🧠 It's Brain Tumor Awareness Month. Dealing with a very large brain tumor a decade ago was life-changing. The journey taught me valuable lessons. Access to post-surgery rehabilitation, a supportive family, and understanding employers made all the difference. Reflecting on my experience, here are some practical ways to make a difference: - Support hospital rehabilitation centers like Harborview in Seattle. - Be open-minded about resumes with employment gaps. - Advocate for better access to healthcare. My current firm's exceptional medical coverage is a game-changer. If only I had this level of support back then!
