What does self-care mean to you? To us at PRG, we believe one of the best ways to care for yourself is to do a monthly self-exam. Feel something off or strange? Don’t delay getting it checked by your healthcare provider and never forget, it’s okay to advocate for yourself, ask questions and get a second opinion. #BreastCancerAwareness #CancerSupport #NoOneTravelsThisRoadAlone

Your doctor hates their employed job. Why? Because your doctor knows they can't practice good medicine. Your doctor is figuring out how to retire early, how to quit and find a new career, or how to start their own direct primary care practice. Don't be surprised to find it harder and harder to find a quality primary care physician in this country. #directprimarycare #primarycare #healthcare #health #medicine #burnout

FAAPMR, DiplABLM; Physician Entrepreneur; Operational Consultant; Culinary Medicine Coach; Community Educator
I am sharing this video below because I think it speaks to what many physicians are feeling in this industry. I love what this brave physician shared! As a specialist, I went through this more than once but the fear of the unknown and tremendous student loan debt kept me tethered to a situation that felt like it was crushing both my spirit and my joy of taking care of people. As a person who truly felt called to serve humanity in this way, it was demoralizing. The truth is: I WASN'T the best doctor I could be when I was operating in fear, trauma, and burnout. The first step of dealing with this was changing the aspect of my work environment I could change in the interim. This was critical to my survival. The truth is: my family WASN'T getting the best version of me. I was showing up burned out for them too, and if I am being 100 percent transparent, there are periods of my young children's lives that are a complete blur to me because I was so deep in survival mode. My decades-long meditation practice brought me back to balance but it REQUIRED serious intentionality for my well being....and not just meditation!. The truth is: I was so afraid of living in poverty again after working so hard to become a physician (because of my educational debt), that I accepted less than I deserved in a situation in which I never felt good enough just to make sure I could stay enrolled in my loan repayment program. The educational debt I had left me feeling like a slave or a sharecropper at best and the psychological and spiritual resentment I felt for that was sometimes too much to manage. The truth is: I made a decision to change my WHOLE life and enter a "Season of YES". The result is I am free, at peace, and see nothing but possibility despite not knowing how everything in my life and career will unfold. And this, to me, is an AMAZING place to be. I learned to say YES again; tap back into my intuition; and trust that the same tenacity that took me from a being a little girl sitting on my steps in West Philly to being the powerful woman I am now will carry me forward. It HAS and it WILL. BUT, the first step was: acknowledging that I wasn't satisfied, that I was burned out, and that I needed to seek change. This is why I LOVE talking about #physicianburnout . We are conditioned to just "suck it up" and keep going in #medicine , but this is contributing to physician suicide, depression, and physicians leaving the profession. It is NOT okay. If your organization is ready to have a frank and thoughtful conversation around burnout and how we may take steps forward, please reach out to me here on LinkedIn or on my website: DrAyannaSKM.com. The path forward is available if you are ready to take the steps! #physicians#career#physicianwellbeing
