And, as you know, the data so closely examined by school committees and leaders to evaluate school progress and student outcomes becomes complicated due to the influence of private tutoring. When external factors like private tutoring interfere with a study or assessment, the resulting data is flawed and misleading. In this case, the tutoring is a confounding variable. To accurately analyze the data, schools should include "private tutoring" as a variable and adjust for it statistically. Accounting for tutoring is crucial in assessing school progress and student outcomes effectively!

BACKGROUND: Malik's Charitable Foundation was established in 2018 by Regina Walker. Regina's passion for community service and her son, Malik, inspired her to address the educational needs of underprivileged students. MCF provides school supplies, book bags and books, benefiting over 100 local students. This support improves attendance, self-esteem, and enthusiasm for learning. OUR MISSION: To empower underprivileged students by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to excel in their education and future goals. This event was a testament to MCF's commitment to fostering educational equity and nurturing the academic potential of every child. Furthermore, MCF's outstanding work through this event was recognized when the foundation was featured in the January 13, 2023 edition of the South Suburban News Newspaper. RedSTART Educate is one of the latest charities to receive a grant from The Quilter Foundation's Local Community Fund. It's a charity focused on delivering financial education to primary-school children. Their CEO, Sarah Marks, said: "We are delighted to receive a donation from The Quilter Foundation’s Local Community Fund to support our work to deliver and evaluate a scalable financial education programme for socially and economically disadvantaged children in primary schools across the UK. We plan to show that teaching kids about money at this formative age, especially to those most at risk of financial difficulties, it is possible to impact their lifelong financial habits, prospects and well-being and help avoid them being trapped in a cycle of generational poverty. This support will bring us a step closer to achieving our mission to close the charity down in 2030 when financial literacy will be on the national curriculum and the blueprint we have proposed has been adopted nationwide. The more access to resources that struggling kids have, the more likely they are to stick it out and stay in school and eventually graduate, get a GED or go to college. This was a driving force for our Kitsap Chapter’s “Weekend Food Bags” program. While many unaccompanied, homeless or at-risk students receive a free lunch during the week through state and federal programs, they often do without on the weekend. Through a partnership model with four regional school districts and the local community college, and funding via donations, Kitsap provides each month: –1400 food packs to 400 young hands who need them. Each pack contains three meals, snacks, juice box, treat and napkin/utensil. – 6,200 individual snacks and easy-entrees (Cup Noodle Soups/microwavable Mac & Cheese cups) to counselors and teachers to support another 300-350 youth who don't qualify for government-subsidized meals but are still experiencing hunger. A small, key volunteer crew, led by Executive Director Margaret Rodriguez and Assistant Chapter Director Felicia Hord, helps store, assemble and deliver the much-appreciated packs across their sprawling, rural area in Western Washington. We love the impact they’re making to reduce food insecurity and break the cycle of students dropping out of school. The Smithson Public School in Kitchener has had the same playground structure for over 25 years! It is a cornerstone of our community and unfortunately, it is facing imminent closure. This closure will not only deprive the children at Smithson School of a safe and engaging play space but also affect the families in our Rosemount community who rely on the school yard and play structure as one of the few accessible playgrounds. Currently, the playground is being repaired by parents/community members who take it upon themselves to “sneak in” and do small repairs to keep the structure functioning and safe for our children. However, as stated above the current play structure is approaching a state of disrepair, and its closure is inevitable. Our goal is to raise money to replace the playground structure this year. We have been doing our best this past year and have raised a fraction of the needed cost. As you may know these structures are not cheap. We need your help! Every donation, big or small, will make significant impact for us to reach our goal and help the dream of a new playground come true for our Smithson Students!
