Beyond the Brochure: Evaluating a Nursing Home's Commitment to Care When seeking long-term care, it's essential to question whether a nursing home truly has the applicant's best interests at heart. While many facilities prioritize resident care and well-being, others may focus more on filling beds and generating revenue. Red flags include: - Pressure to sign admission contracts quickly - Lack of transparency about services and fees - Limited flexibility in care plans - Overemphasis on financial assets Conversely, facilities with a genuine interest in residents' well-being will: - Offer personalized care plans - Encourage family involvement - Provide clear and detailed information - Prioritize resident comfort and dignity When touring facilities, pay attention to staff attitudes, resident interactions, and the overall atmosphere. Ask questions and advocate for yourself or your loved one. Remember, a nursing home should prioritize care, not profits.

I teach doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals English for Healthcare, with a focus on the OET.
Is Nursing a STEM subject? STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This webinair made a powerful case that it nursing should be considered a STEM and why culturally nursing is waiting full recognition. (It’s also good practice for OET Listening C.) I learned that Florence Nightingale, in her very first book ‘Notes on Nursing, What It Is and What It Is Not’ predicted it would take 150 years for the full scope of nursing to be realised. That was 164 years ago. Now, future nurses study courses entitled ‘Nursing Science’, there are doctoral programmes in the subject, and medical technology is advancing all the time. I think it is amazing that nursing could not be designated as a STEM subject. If you are a nurse, what do you think about the way your expertise is valued in society? And if you think Nursing is STEM, consider signing the petition. #linkedinnurses #oetpreparation #nursingisstem
In case you missed it, you can now follow, watch and share the energizing and insightful national panel discussion from Friday, March 15 featuring some of the top voices in nursing innovation talking about Nursing as a STEM discpline. Once you do, don't forget to sign the petition! Ifhttps://lnkd.in/emQP4GJ2 https://lnkd.in/eUBj2v6n

🌟 Let's Pop Our Nursing Bubble and Reach Out to Others! 🌟 As Judith Shamian puts it, let's break free from our nursing bubble and embrace the power of mixing art and science to build effective strategies. Nursing is not just about the technicalities; it's about reaching out, connecting, and making a difference beyond our immediate sphere. Florence Nightingale's words resonate deeply: "Unless we are making progress in our nursing every year, every month, every week, take my word for it, we are going back." Progress isn't just a concept—it's a necessity. It's about constantly evolving, learning, and pushing boundaries. So, dear colleagues, let's reflect on our roles, embrace change, and strive for excellence. Together, we can shape a brighter future for nursing and healthcare. #InnovationInHealthcare #Leadership #Inspiration #Progress #Courage #MahatmaGandhi #FlorenceNightingale #ESNO2024 #thisisWhatNurselookslike

We're pleased to share that The London Clinic has been selected as a finalist for the Nursing Times award for the Learning Disabilities Nursing Award! This award recognises the unique role that nurses have in supporting patients with learning disabilities, along with their families and carers, to achieve and maintain good health, wellbeing and their full potential. It focuses on how nurses or nursing teams work to break down barriers that may prevent participation in society or result in health inequalities. We're honoured to be selected on the shortlist and can't wait for the awards announcements in October. The London Clinic’s award entry focuses on a project which is about reaching beyond what constitutes a reasonable adjustment. Our Clinical Site Team identified areas of improvement in care for patients admitted with additional needs, and developed a new care framework. This includes: • improved patient passports • identification and escalation of patients with additional needs at pre-assessment • review of time booked for consultations • further training and education • policy reviews • a consistent working group • assurance into the Patient Safety Committee • review of patient experience data including support from patients at the patient forum • improved communication aids • family/carer involvement. This also included the appointment of two lead roles within the Clinical Site Practitioner Team including our Dementia Lead (Dawn) and our Learning Disability and Autism Lead (Joao). The team have taken a multi professional approach to the project making sure that all teams are working together to ensure this particular cohort of patients receive safe quality care that is tailored to their individual needs. #NursingTimesAward #LearningDisabilitiesCare #Nursing #Nurses #TheLondonClinic #LondonHospital #PrivateHealthcare #AwardShortlist

Nurses like this are all around us and I'm grateful to be among such an honored profession. I love being a nurse. However, a common drawback of choosing this career is giving our all to others and leaving little for ourselves. This is where my passion for money coaching comes in. Just as we care for our patients, it's crucial to care for ourselves, too. A solid financial plan can be a vital part of our self-care routine. By managing our money well, we reduce stress, gain control over our future, and create the space to recharge and enjoy life outside of work. Through money coaching, I help fellow nurses develop budgets that work for their unique needs, empowering them to feel secure and balanced. Because when we take care of ourselves, we’re in a much better position to take care of others. Book a Smart Money Strategy Session: https://lnkd.in/e8qsdXNc
Nursing can be both exhausting and rewarding. Yesterday was a perfect example - I was physically and emotionally drained, but the opportunity to make a real difference in patients' lives made it all worthwhile.
