#independentliving It was great to hear from my colleague Margy Nelson, the co-founder and former Executive Director of The #Movement #Centre of Manitoba in Winnipeg. I see she is now involved in a new endeavor that will have tremendous impact for serving #housing needs for those with #cerebralpalsy in #Canada. Check it out: https://www.cohabit.ca/ . As you know living conditions for many with mental disorders or #dementia are subpar. What is to be done? Well people like Margy are leading the charge to help with this problem. According to a study in the Journal of Gerontological Social Work, in-law caregivers provided more financial assistance with care. In contrast, adult child caregivers offered more emotional support and unpaid work. Adult child caregivers also reported poorer mental health and family strain; in-law caregivers reported more spouse support and less family strain. Call to speak with an #AngelCompanions case manager to address your unique needs and those of your loved one to ensure the entire family system remains #healthy and well this busy #holidayseason. Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort and affection to people other than their handlers or owners. That could mean visiting a variety of places where people need love and affection, such as hospitals, schools, hospices, nursing homes, disaster areas, and more. They are encouraged to interact with a variety of people and should have a friendly and warm disposition. The exact nature of their role differs from dog to dog and from institution to institution. Some include: 1.Improving patients’ mental health through socialisation and engagement. 2. Giving learning disabled children the confidence to read out loud. 3. Aiding physical rehabilitation by walking people through processes, with the aim of helping them to recover certain physical skills. #owlhub #ablednotdisabled

It's #IMHAW2024! This Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, ask MPs and parliamentary candidates to #SpeakUpForBabies. This is because: • At least 1 in 10 babies is living in fear and distress. Without help they are more likely to develop mental health conditions in childhood • Many NHS mental health trusts do not accept referrals for children under two. • Start for Life funding has supported several existing specialist parent-infant relationship teams, and is helping create new teams too, but the funding currently only runs until 1 April 2025 • It is estimated that a tenfold increase in the number of specialist parent-infant teams is needed to realise Start for Life's vision of supporting babies at risk of disorganised attachment • The First 1001 Days' Movement's Manifesto for Babies Experts recommends a national target for the NHS in England to support 60,000 babies over the next five years #SpeakUpForBabies #ADS #ParentInfantFdn
