Alberta Health Services (AHS) has been chosen to take part in envisAGE, a new initiative aimed to enhance and improve healthy aging across Canada. The Aligning Challenges to Opportunities and Networks (ACTION™) Assessment (https://lnkd.in/gT7_KHAN) is part of the work to bring together existing research, stakeholders' input, and existing/developing technologies to identify and validate priority challenges and evaluate technological-based solutions to address them. They are looking to engage older adults, family members and unpaid caregivers, and service providers to provide their insights and experiences in this area via short interviews. If you belong to any of these stakeholder groups and would like to join the conversation, please sign up on their website, email, or give them a call.

The December 2023 issue of the Journal of Primary Health Care #JPrimaryHealthCare, the free open access peer-reviewed research journal of The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners from CSIRO Publishing is now out. https://lnkd.in/emj_xS4c Our guest editorial is from Professor Peter Crampton. He notes that one positive announcement from our new coalition government to date regarding health is the stated intention to proceed with implementing the recent Sapere report on capitation funding for general practice and primary health care – this is urgently needed as the current model is not fit for purpose. This month we have also re-introduced the “Back to Back” series, whereby two professionals present opposing views to a moot. This explores areas of uncertainty, where there is no one right answer, and helps stimulate debate. The first moot debates the question whether ‘prompting lifestyle interventions to promote weight loss is safe, effective or patient-centred.’

The Public Health Agency of Canada is in the process of developing a vision for what public health assessment in Canada could look like by 2030. They need to hear from you to make sure that the vision is well informed by the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and peoples of colour - so among others - there is a strong and consistent call for ethno-racial and other equity-defined disaggregated data - across all measures, indicators, and indices - to make all the many hidden inequities and disparities visible, to inform public health planning and interventions, as well as to focus and appropriately target any and all initiatives to address social/structural/systemic determinants of health.

Spiritual Health Association stands at a crucial juncture where our ability to support inclusive, consistent, quality and safe spiritual care is at risk. With the loss of our government funding, from $1.35 million to $0, we face the stark possibility of ceasing our operations as an organisation. Of the total amount, $664,000 has previously gone to faith communities (nearly 70 years of support) with the remaining $689,000 for SHA's operational funding (50 years of support) - and we stand to lose the entire amount. The implications go beyond SHA alone. This funding loss not only threatens the delivery of faith-specific care but also jeopardises the high standard of holistic healthcare that Victoria is renowned for. The loss of SHA's funding will result in: - Reduced access to an essential domain of healthcare - Potential risk of unsafe spiritual care delivery to patients and families - Potential loss of specialised faith-specific care, undermining healthcare equity - Discontinuation of SHA's comprehensive support, quality assurance, and internationally recognised sectoral research. Share our message and join us in advocating for a reinstatement of SHA’s funding. Thinking about the implementation gap - the gap between knowing what the right thing is to do and actually doing it - and how to overcome it. Thinking of a system wide ‘manifesto’ approach to create good whole population health has already been done such as ADPH (https://lnkd.in/eTVj9car), Centre for Mental Health (https://lnkd.in/eR_yH2uD), IHPE (https://lnkd.in/e7XCwXgD), NHS Confed (point 5 at https://lnkd.in/eT5yhzhe) and other etc So, its not the manifesto of implementable ideas that’s needed – but the actual implementation. To me, a question is ‘How to pilot one of these manifestos as a proof of concept within a community, but that can be rapidly scaled up and overcome some of the systematic in-built injustices and inequalities and the commercial determinants of (poor) health?' Is anyone else frustrated that there feels to be an active push back against good societal health - and have solutions to overcome it? Dr Linda Mizun Dr Tom Gedman Rumina Önaç

Power - such an intangible, with such tangible consequences. Power is 'hidden in plain sight' especially in patient partnerships in research. If you don't address power sharing early and explicitly, then you risk undermining your partnership with a power imbalance (usually NOT in favour of #PatientPartners). The World Health Organization is on to this, as evident in the latest resolution (28 May 2024) focused on #PPI in #healthcare. There are many clauses of interest in the resolution, but one on power and another one on publishing caught my attention. Hope they catch yours too! "Recognizing that empowering people, communities and civil society for equitable, diverse and inclusive participation involves strengthening their capacities to meaningfully engage, financing their participation, valuing lived and living experiences, and addressing power imbalances in the design of the participatory space;" "to document, publish and disseminate Member States’ experiences in implementing meaningful social participation" If we don't publish and share, the evidence base on #PPI will remain fragmented and fragile. Please use the best practice reporting guideline #GRIPP2 when you publish too! Our latest research shows that most people don't... https://lnkd.in/gvYraS6z.

Student at Government Medical College| Cleared Indian Medical Entrance Exam with All India Rank 7007 competing among 1.8 M.| Passionate to learn and help others.| Dreaming as a writer|
The day before yesterday I was busy with my project from the department of community medicine. Community medicine is a discipline of Medicine science dealing with healthcare issues affecting communities as a whole. It aims to decrease the burden of preventable diseases in underserved communities by addressing the root cause or detecting the disease in its early stages. I was given a project on Ottawa Charter for health promotion 1986. It was the first International Conference on Health Promotion on the 21st of November,1986 presents its charter for action to achieve health for all by 2000 or beyond. This conference was concerned with growing expectations for new public health movements worldwide. It talks about five key actions and three strategies to address those actions. The key actions of the charter are: Public health policy Strengthen community action for health. Reorientation of health services. Personal skill development. Supportive environment for health. Three basic strategies to address these key actions are: Advocate It aims of advocating the people about the prosperity which comes with health. Telling them how good health contributes to the development of a community and furthers a nation in all dimensions. Enable Focus on achieving equity in health by ensuring equal health opportunities and resources to enable everyone to achieve their health at their fullest potential. It is done by providing a supportive environment and enabling personal skill development. Holistic health with fruitful abilities to serve oneself and others applies both to men and women equally. Mediate Achieving the health of the community is not only the responsibility of the state but we as responsible citizens should pay our contribution towards achieving a healthy society. I felt it responsibility of us who know about health to mediate it to our people and help them to leave a happy and healthy life. #health #goodhealth #life #community
