Carbon Engineering is a proud partner for the Mission Innovation Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission’s SMART-CDR Competition, promoting the advancement of Measuring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) through support for technologies and ideas developed by teams of university students.
The Mission Innovation Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission is pleased to extend its gratitude and celebrate our Silver Sponsor to the #SMARTCDR Competition ➡ Carbon Engineering! Carbon Engineering (CE) was founded in 2009 with a clear mission – to develop and commercialize a technology that captures carbon dioxide (#CO2) directly out of the atmosphere at large-scale. Today, the first commercial facility to use CE’s technology, which is being developed by 1PointFive, is under construction in #Texas and expected to begin commercial operations in mid-2025. Once fully operational, the facility - named #STRATOS - is expected to be the largest in the world. CE leverages decades of experience in operating within measuring, reporting, and verification systems and regulations for geologic carbon dioxide injection and sequestration. Recognizing the high importance of #MRV for CDR, CE is providing US$10,000 to the #MICDR #SMARTCDR Competition. “Transparent and thorough monitoring, reporting and verification is critical for maintaining confidence in high-integrity carbon dioxide removal solutions, growing the CDR market and scaling technologies to help meet climate goals. Carbon Engineering is proud to support the MI CDR SMART Competition, drawing on our experience in Direct Air Capture development, helping to inspire the next generation of CDR leaders and advancing durable carbon removal.” - Adam Baylin-Stern – Policy and Engagement Lead, Carbon Engineering Thank you CE for your generosity and commitment to sustainability and supporting the workforce of the future! The CDR Mission is proud to partner with you on this important global initiative. The past few months have seen a lot of movement on decarbonizing aviation. With a busy travel season in full swing, we’ve put together a playlist of our favourite podcasts that will give you an inside look at how an industry that connects us all can fly towards net zero. As you hit the road or take to the skies this holiday season, have a listen to the following: • CE’s Anna Stukas sat down with Na'im Merchant on the Carbon Curve podcast for a deep dive on all things Direct Air Capture (DAC) and aviation, including how airlines are leaning in to kickstart DAC today. https://lnkd.in/g5yn9EpZ • For the SimpliFlying podcast, Shashank Nigam ✈ talks with CE’s Amy Ruddock and gets into the science of DAC and what it can do for aviation. https://lnkd.in/dphpHi3k • If you’re looking for more on the emerging DAC industry, The Economist's Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran reports in-person from the site of the first commercial facility to use CE’s technology, expected to be the largest in the world. Vijay gives listeners a good overview of the technology, as well as what needs to be done to scale (the section about DAC begins 10 min 55 seconds into the podcast). Lufthansa Group has become the latest airline to sign on for the Airbus Carbon Capture Offer. One of Europe’s largest airlines, Lufthansa joins All Nippon Airways, Air Canada and easyJet in adding durable carbon removal to their decarbonization portfolio, backed by Carbon Engineering’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. Lufthansa has contracted to pre-purchase verified and durable carbon-removal credits for 40,000 tonnes of CO2, with credits supplied by our partner, 1PointFive. DAC is expected to play a critical key role in enabling airlines to decarbonize, both as a high-integrity form of carbon removal, and by scaling the atmospheric CO2 available as a feedstock for synthetic sustainable aviation fuel in the coming years. Read more about the announcement below. #DAC #CDR #NetZero #SustainableAviation
The Lufthansa Group joins Airbus Aircraft’s carbon-removal initiative🤝. It is considered a promising solution for reducing CO2 in the atmosphere: The so-called Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) technology filters CO2 from the air and stores it permanently. The Lufthansa Group began exploring this innovative process at an early stage and sees it as a complementary instrument in its sustainability strategy. The Lufthansa Group has now signed a contract with Airbus Aircraft on the pre-purchase of verified and durable carbon-removal credits of 40,000 tonnes of CO2. The carbon-removal credits will be issued by Airbus through its ACCO (Airbus Carbon Capture Offer) service. The certificates will be available from 2026 and an annual purchase of carbon-removal credits of 10,000 tonnes of CO2 has been agreed for four years. The signing of the contract follows a joint declaration of intent from 2022. #MakeChangeFly More information https://lnkd.in/eNtc4PuY
