We’re excited to announce that we’re bringing 320,000 tons of yearly CO2 removal capacity to Northwest Louisiana with two new DAC facilities! Located at the Port of Caddo-Bossier near Shreveport, the first 17,000 ton facility will come online in 2026. A separate facility will be built in the same location, with 100,000 tons of capacity to come online in 2027, and an additional 200,000 tons of capacity to come in subsequent years. This larger facility is Heirloom’s portion of Project Cypress, part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supported DAC Hub program. Here’s why this matters: 🏗️ Scaling Heirloom’s DAC solution: This is a major scale up from the 1,000 ton facility that we opened late last year as America’s first commercial DAC facility. 👷 Growing a new energy economy: Combined, these two DAC facilities will create over 1,000 jobs in Northwest Louisiana, helping to advance a new energy economy in the state and further establish America as a DAC leader. 💰 Expanding the economic impact of Project Cypress: With Heirloom’s Project Cypress facility in Northwest Louisiana and Climeworks' Project Cypress facility in Southwest Louisiana, we’re expanding statewide the economic impact and job creation potential of this DOE program. 🌎 Leveraging public investments to expand DAC: We’re leveraging the workforce and infrastructure investments that are making Project Cypress happen to add CO2 removal capacity with a privately-funded 17,000 ton DAC facility. This shows how government support can spur private investment in the CDR space and service more customer demand for high quality carbon removals. Last November, Heirloom opened North America’s first commercial direct air capture (DAC) facility, which has a 1,000 ton annual capture capacity. Today, we’re announcing two new DAC facilities in Northwest Louisiana, which can remove a combined ~320,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year! This is a huge step toward a new energy economy, creating quality construction and operations jobs that strengthen America’s climate leadership. But the work is far from finished. Every year we’ll be adding more “0''s to our carbon dioxide removal (CDR) capacity until we reach one billion tons and beyond!

It may look like cells in a battery -- and in a way it is -- but instead of battery cells, these are groupings of Steelhead compressed #hydrogen tanks. The “modular pico-hydro power plant” concept developed by RIDS in a nutshell: It allows a village community to start with one power turbine, generating between 1 – 1.5 kW (depending on the head, water flow and the turbine technology) for the very basic electricity requirements. Once the community needs more electrical power, and they can afford to pay for it, they can add several more equal turbines to the system as per their power requirement. This is overall cheaper and thus more affordable for the community and in the long run more sustainable. #electrification #sustainabledevelopment #hydropower

It's a good time to have a carbon fiber manufacturer client with new, vastly more productive and cost-efficient technology. Double the grid's electrical current by re-cabling using carbon fiber? Wow. Being 5-10X stronger than steel at 20% of the weight makes it essential to multiple decarbonization pathways. This adds a 6th to my list. 1) Wind energy economic improvement (lengthening, strengthening and lightweighting blades) 2) Hydrogen mobility (storage tanks) 3) Vehicular lightweighting (expand EV range and MPG) 4) Steel rebar replacement (use much less cement) 5) Shipping container lightweighting (fossil fuel reduction) 6) Grid power line replacement (increase capacity) Article Excerpts: - Replacing existing power lines with cables made from state-of-the-art materials could roughly double the capacity of the electric grid in many parts of the country, making room for much more wind and solar power. - Cables that used smaller, lighter cores such as carbon fiber and that could hold more aluminum...these advanced cables can carry up to twice as much current as older models. #climatefinance #decarbonization #investmentbanking https://lnkd.in/gXwk5qXh
