Cotierra introduces a biochar solution tailored to the unique conditions of the #GlobalSouth. By converting coffee tree residues into #biochar and applying it back to the plantations, Cotierra locks away #carbon in the soil for centuries, restores soil health and boosts farm productivity. The funding will help us speed up product development and demonstrate the tangible benefits of our decentralized biochar approach on the ground, whether it is reduced supply chain emissions or fully traceable and permanent #carbonremoval credits. By utilising special farming techniques designed to capture carbon dioxide—one of the major greenhouse gases responsible for climate change—CarbonEx is empowering farmers to play a key role in the fight against climate change. This initiative not only promotes sustainable farming practices but also contributes to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Farmers can earn carbon credits, which are like certificates that prove a certain amount of carbon dioxide has been captured and stored by the farm. The CarbonEx platform measures and verifies the amount of carbon captured by the farms to ensure the carbon credits are accurate and trustworthy. Once verified, they register it on their registry and have it validated by third-party organizations globally, like Verra and Gold Standard and can be traded in a Carbon Market. NIGCOMSAT is working with CarbonEX to provide connectivity to these rural and remote farms to track and trade their carbon credits. Our portfolio company, Klim, was recently featured on Earthly’s blog! Great overview of the power of regenerative agriculture and Klim’s work to empower farmers. 👩🌾💪 A few key points:   📈 Regenerative farms can experience up to a 60% increase in profits within six years, thanks to improved soil health and reduced reliance on costly inputs like fertilizers and pesticides. 🐛 More than half of all species reside below the earth’s surface. Regenerative methods, including catch crops, crop residues, flower strips, and reduced tillage, enhance biodiversity by safeguarding essential microorganisms and animal species crucial for healthy plant growth. 🤔 Despite the numerous benefits, farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture encounter challenges such as financial risks, initial yield dips, and knowledge gaps.   Klim is at the forefront, providing farmer-focused critical support to ease this transition. Their vision is to achieve a fully regenerative agricultural system 🌈 through their support platform for farmers and financial assistance via insetting for companies’ supply chains and carbon credits. What was once a distant idea is now an urgent reality.
