🌟 A Milestone achieved at the Hong Kong Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase 1 (HKIWMF1) 🌿 Sustainable Impact: The HKIWMF1 project is not only a testament to engineering excellence but also aligns with Hong Kong’s ambitious sustainability goals. I.PARK1, once operational, will generate about 480 million kilowatt-hours of surplus electricity annually. This surplus electricity will be exported to the public power grid, which is equivalent to powering about 100,000 households in Hong Kong. 🌎 Environmental Commitment: Our efforts resonate with Hong Kong’s commitment to a “Zero Landfill” future and carbon neutrality. The Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX) in Malaysia, which officially launched on Sept 25, has recorded early success with 16,500 units of #carbon credits traded by 10 companies within the first two days. Bursa Malaysia and the government are encouraging greater corporate participation in BCX, emphasising that the #voluntary carbon market's progress depends on early involvement from Malaysian corporates. The launch of the #national Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) handbook is intended to guide local professionals and stakeholders in generating carbon #credits in accordance with #international standards. https://lnkd.in/gyWpew_W

Industry and energy solutions are key to reducing environmental impacts. 🏭🌱 In the Green Industrial Areas (GIA) project, seven countries and seven pilot industrial areas are joining forces towards carbon neutrality. Finland has two pilot sites, Lintukangas and Eteläportti in Jyväskylä. The project looks at six themes, including energy, emission reduction and the circular economy. In 2023, a draft certificate was created and is currently being tested in the pilot areas. In 2025, the certificate will be finalised on the basis of the experience gained and rolled out to all participating countries. The GIA project's visits to Finland provided inspiration and lessons learned for foreign operators. The bottom-up approach of Finnish companies to sustainable practices attracted interest. Finns understand the potential of the green transition and see its long-term benefits. Promoting the green transition requires long-term thinking and attention to regional differences. Germany stresses the importance of decentralised energy production, while in Poland upgrading infrastructure is key to the green transition. Vietnam’s Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment under the ministry of natural resources and environment and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have launched a project to accelerate low-carbon circular economy through clean technology innovation, leading to sustainable development. With an investment capital of over $11 million, the project is being financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Vietnamese government and other partners. The project aims at sustainable and inclusive development in priority sectors in the country, and integrate renewable energy, energy efficiency and waste management, according to domestic media reports. 🌊 SeaO2 at Carbon Unbound 🌊 The SeaO2 team Ruben Brands, Mónica Larrazábal Álvarez-Guerra and Dr. Rose (rezvan) Sharifian had the privilege of attending the Carbon Unbound last week in London. It was an incredible opportunity to dive deep into the current landscape of the growing carbon removal industry and explore pathways towards a scaled-up market 💪 Here are some key insights that stood out: 👉 The surge in CDR purchases underscores a shift towards a diversified portfolio approach, accommodating all viable CDR solutions. Noteworthy is USA’s government’s recent $35Mn CDR Direct Procurement announcement that might instigate other countries to follow. 👉 The ocean CDR session spotlighted the unparalleled scale potential of the oceans: the deep oceans hold up to 38 trillion tons of CO2, a staggering 44 times more than in the atmosphere. 👉 The oceans panel shed light on critical challenges, emphasizing the urgency for robust MRV strategies and the complexities of permitting, even at the field trial level. Presenters expressed optimism, highlighting the substantial global investment pouring into marine MRV initiatives. 👉 The capacity of the Global South to emerge as a pivotal force in the carbon removal market is significant, given the abundance of green energy in certain countries and their potential for vast storage It was particularly engaging to hear a session dedicated to marine CDR 🌊 and its many challenges and opportunities.
