The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed on 21 March the International Day of Forests. The theme for the year 2024 is ‘Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World’. With the advancement of technology, forest monitoring has improved, resulting in a reduction of 13.7 billion tons of CO2 emissions. However, the battle against deforestation still requires new technological advancements, as we lose 10 million hectares of forest every year, and 70 million hectares are affected by fire annually. To combat deforestation, we need early warning systems, sustainable commodity production, land mapping, and finance access for Indigenous Peoples. By reforestation, we can reduce climate change, provide sustainable wood products, and improve food security. Forests play a crucial role in mitigating health-related effects of climate change by regulating temperatures, mediating water flows, and acting as carbon sinks. Let’s celebrate forests with #ForestDay. https://lnkd.in/gFB7Bpqx
