Some of the key benefits of using drone to track the progress of construction projects 1 - Drones can rapidly, effectively, and safely gather precise, real-time data that can be effortlessly shared and distributed among all essential parties, whether they are internal or external stakeholders. 2 -They offer significant savings in manpower hours, minimise health and safety hazards, identify potential problems at an early stage, prevent and assist in resolving possible disagreements with contractors, and collect a broad array of precise visual data swiftly. 3 - One standout advantage of employing drones in tandem with specialised flight planning software is the ability to reproduce each output precisely, allowing for accurate data comparison across different timelines. There are several different outputs and solutions a drone can create, one of them being Detailed And Accurate Orthomosaic Maps The maps can have hundreds of individual photographs, which are seamlessly joined together by our software to display an extremely detailed and precise map of the entire site. While a standard map offers approximately 1.4cm/px resolution, in contrast, Google Earth generally provides a resolution of about 15cm/px. In addition to the ability to observe the complete site and zoom in on any specific area of interest, each unique image is available for review and can be downloaded as needed. These maps also facilitate taking measurements across the site, including distances, heights, and volumes. Here is a short video showing what an ortho map looks like and how it can be used Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/euYu-JAx #drones #dronephotography #dronevideo #dronesinconstruction #construction #constructionindustry #dronemapping #dronesurveying #dronesurvey #dronesurveys DroneDeploy Dronelink

How Drones in construction add value - Day 5: Expedited contract reconciliation When it comes to agreeing on sizes of stockpiles and amounts of earth moved in a certain period, it’s much easier to do with more exact measurements. This is what drones offer. Thanks to high-resolution payloads and photogrammetry software, millions of data points cover each stockpile and surface, offering much more precise volume and progress analytics. Imagine daily views, and you start to get an idea of how this prevents long discussions at the reconciliation phase. Owners, contractors and subcontractors are all starting to rely on drone data to compare site activities. Those who don’t, have less to bring to the table. Those who do, simply pull up the files, flip through the days, display measurements and prove or disprove the claims. ROI insight: On busy construction sites with tight deadlines, the last thing you want to spend time on is on disputed claims of work done and earth moved. With regular frequent drone data snapshots of the worksite, everything is on record, accurate and available at the click of a point on the screen. Last week, our team gathered for a lunchtime status report and demo of SUPERSTRUCTURES’ drone-based “reality capture,” conducted by the firm’s partners and Tech studio. Since our founding 40 years ago, we’ve dreamed of photographically capturing a building’s facade, creating a “digital twin,” and bringing it back to the office for inspection, analysis, and formulation of a restoration strategy. That dream is becoming a reality thanks to the advent of drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and navigation controls that can fly a consistent distance from the building’s face and capture the overlapping images required for an inspectable model. Photogrammetry software and large-screen, high-resolution monitors complete the picture. And perhaps most critically, permitted drone flights recently became legal in NYC. SUPERSTRUCTURES has used drones extensively outside the city, but now we expect our drone use to “take off,” so to speak. Drone imagery makes our analysis sharper and our restoration documents better. We can see conditions that are otherwise inaccessible or invisible and be more confident in our solutions and scope. Projects experience fewer change orders that impact cost or schedule. The clarity of our most recent models has left clients viewing them literally speechless. More posts to follow, including video tours and demos. #drones #photogrammetry #buildinginspection #restoration

How Drones in construction add value - Day 2: Massive savings on survey-grade site surveys Before construction drones, topographical, planning, and inspection insights were often based on disjointed information that took days to gather, analyze and share. Since sites progress fast, this information was always slightly outdated. It’s now possible to gather precise, photorealistic details across an entire active site area in a matter of hours, with just one or two drone pilots leading the collection. This means that at every stage of your project, fast, comprehensive and accurate views and analytics are available, on-demand, to all site managers, contractors and stakeholders, within hours not days. Plus, if you are conducting frequent drone construction surveys, their outputs are on record to answer questions or assess details with a click of a mouse rather than the time of a worker to drive out and check. ROI insight: Drone surveys cut the costs of survey crews dramatically. They also offer fast turnaround on deliverables, which offer clear views and records on which to base important decisions that move projects forward faster and keeps it on time. Save time - Leading survey drone with traditional survey methods as per the below graph. 85% faster surveying means that a one-hour surveying job with the Aerial Hawks drone equals up to six hours with traditional survey methods. As part of my earlier post, here is the first installment on UAVs. I am sharing information about the most common drones: multi-rotor drones. These are nothing but drones with more than two rotors. If they have three, they are tri-rotors; four, they are quad-rotors; six, they are hex-rotors. You might have come across them as they are used for commercial purposes like aerial photography, search and rescue, and military purposes. I will explain how they perform fundamental tasks such as moving forward, backward, left, and right, as well as collecting data and other essential operations. They employ a basic concept we all have encountered: relative velocity. The movement mechanism is achieved via thrust components and differential thrust. Thrust and Movement: Thrust: When rotors rotate, they push the air downward, which in turn applies an upward force on the drone (thanks to Newton's third law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction). By using different speeds, we can generate different thrust levels at each rotor. Moving Forward: To move forward, we generate a larger amount of thrust at the rear end by making the rear rotors run at a higher speed than the front ones. This tilts the drone forward, generating a horizontal thrust component and moving the drone in the forward direction. Stay tuned as I will be discussing how these drones perform various tasks, their applications, the technologies used, and the companies working on them in detail. #UAV #Drones #MultiRotorDrones #AerialPhotography #SearchAndRescue #MilitaryApplications #Innovation #Technology

How Drones in construction add value - Day 3: Real-time tracking (via updated, accurate construction drone data) Miscalculations are only natural when hundreds of decisions are made on a construction site every day. Drone data gathered at regular intervals allows project managers to check all areas of a site not only for progress, but also for the exact alignment of as-planned to as-built. Many times, the earlier any error is caught in the process, the less costly it is to rectify, and the less delay it costs the entire project. Regularly updated views of activity across a site allows tracking which saves countless hours and expensive delays. Missing and stolen equipment is also a reality on busy construction sites. In fact, in the most recent annual equipment theft report by Verisk, stolen equipment costs the construction industry USD 1 billion per year. Up-to-date site views with centimetre-level resolution also help monitor security fences and the location of equipment on a regular basis. ROI insight: Mistakes are expensive, the cost of a good drone platform to prevent the bulk of them, and catch others early, is cheaper. Equipment tracking is also much easier with an updated, granular view of the entire worksite.
