Urban Development is about designing city solutions to groups that need more representation in the city including the physically challenged. A checklist for a playground should extend beyond swings and slides. How about we ask the question: How inclusive is this space? can children of all abilities use this space equally? Inclusive playgrounds is a beautiful design solution that accounts for all physical capabilities of our children. Next time you visit a playground, you can try to evaluate how inclusive it is :) #urbanDevelopment #urbanPlanning #urbanDesign #Publiscpace #inclusiveSpace #equality #greencities

#speakourlanguage When we discuss equality versus equity, we must recognize the nuance to understand the difference. Consider entering a building from the street. Equality provides the stairs—the same resource for everyone without considering the individual needs of people who access and utilize this building. Equity provides the railings, ramps, and elevators for people with physical ailments. Equity isn’t exclusionary. It is quite the opposite. Equity ensures we all can partake in the same opportunities and have the same desired outcome(s). #antiracism #chibydesign #codesign #equality #equity #traumarespon

Today is International Women's Day, and this year's theme is 'Inspire Inclusion'. Human diversity is a fact of life and yet our public spaces are not always designed with this in mind. So as part of this year's #IWD2024 theme, Niamh has taken a look at the importance of inclusive design, what it means and how it can be applied to urban design and the places we create 💖 https://buff.ly/3IrYthR

Signage for promoting Inclusivity A powerful way to demonstrate your commitment and care for your customers is by using signage to promote inclusivity. Incorporating Braille for the visually impaired or providing directional signs to help them navigate your premises more easily ensures that everyone, regardless of ability, can engage with your space comfortably. Inclusive signage shows that your business values accessibility and equality. #NSB #NationalSignBuild #Signageproject #Signage #SignagePlanning #SignageDesign #InclusiveDesign #AccessibleSignage #BrailleSignage #PromoteInclusivity #Equality #UniversalDesign #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveSpaces #CustomerExperience

Building a Brighter Future: Why Inclusivity Matters in Our Communities June may be Pride Month, but the concept of inclusivity extends far beyond celebrating gender identities. It's about fostering a sense of belonging and creating spaces where everyone, regardless of background or ability, feels welcome and respected. This principle is just as important in our physical environments – our residential communities and infrastructure – as it is in our social circles. The engineering industry, like many others, has sometimes been guilty of perpetuating stereotypes. Buildings designed without accessibility features, for example, create barriers for people with disabilities and gender discrimination. Thankfully, these outdated approaches are slowly fading away. Today's generation is more conscious of the needs of diverse communities, and inclusivity is becoming a core value. At FILDRAVO, we understand the critical role inclusivity plays in building a sustainable future. That's why we've made it a cornerstone of our company culture. From the very beginning, we transformed our policies, core values, mission, and vision to reflect current trends towards inclusivity and sustainability. One tangible example of this commitment is our focus on designing inclusive toilets. This might seem like a small detail, but for many people with disabilities, and LGBTQs 🏳️🌈 access to a properly equipped restroom is a major concern. By prioritizing inclusive design, we're sending a clear message: everyone deserves to feel safe and included in their community. Our journey towards inclusivity is ongoing, and we know we can't achieve it alone. It requires collaboration between government, stakeholders, architects, engineers, community leaders, and residents themselves. Only by working together we can create truly inclusive residential communities and infrastructure that allows everyone to thrive. Happy Pride Month! Let us build more inclusive communities together!

Our new guidance Inclusive Design is an in-depth and insightful delve into how we can make buildings and spaces #inclusive - including age, #disability , #ethnicity , #gender , and #neurodivergence. It challenges perceptions that inclusive design is expensive and costs more, with collective expert authors, from various #engineering and #design specialisms, all advocating for the economic and societal benefits it brings. Motionspot’s CEO and Founder Ed Warner says in his foreword: “If we are to build a world where everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued, inclusive design should be at the heart of all stages of design and be the responsibility of all built environment professionals. Inclusive design does not have to add significant cost to a project.” https://lnkd.in/eJ3m9Duw

✊Ditching 'Reference Man' means designing for living beings beyond humans, going from people-centric to life-centric.🌱🐝 🎥Sharing this clip from my Keynote at the UIA World Congress of Architects CPH 2023 in Copenhagen last July on our need to do beyond designing for an archaic reference that disregards completely disregards women, children, the elderly, people of colour, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, most men as well as the entire natural world of flora and fauna. 🌿🐞 🌍We all thrive when we integrate plant and animal needs into our urban and architecture design processes. 🕊️Birds, bats, butterflies and bamboo grasses should not only be in our visualisations to win competitions, but actually form an integral part of our buildings. The result is healthier, biodiverse and more liveable cities. Who doesn’t want that? ✊From our relationship with nature to safety and accessibility, or lack thereof, it couldn’t be clearer that society’s biased love affair with Reference man is impeding your right to the inclusive, regenerative and resilient city that you so deserve. 💬Now, we may not know what the ideal city would be like, but we do know it doesn't revolve around Reference man. Agree? #Archtivism #BuiltEnvironment #InclusiveDesign #Inclusion
