Volunteer Spotlight: Angie Georgopoulou Angie started volunteering at Canyon in January 2024, dedicating her time to the Memory Care Unit. Her favorite part of volunteering is the impact she has on her sweet friends, seeing them light up and eagerly share their days with her. Initially motivated by her nursing school requirements, Angie’s desire to volunteer deepened as she experienced the profound need for friendship and care among the residents. She now volunteers to show them that someone truly cares and that they matter. Through her volunteering, Angie has learned that everyone needs a friend to talk to, a simple yet often overlooked need. This lesson has been particularly valuable, as it highlights the importance of companionship, especially for those who feel alone. Angie advises new volunteers to be patient, understanding that volunteering has its ups and downs. Patience and consistent presence can make a significant difference, not only for the residents but also for the volunteers themselves. A fun fact about Angie is that she was born and raised in Greece and moved to St. George, Utah, during her freshman year of high school, where she has loved living ever since. #VolunteerSpotlight #MemoryCare #MakingADifference #VolunteerLife #CommunityCare #CompanionshipMatters #NursingStudent #UtahVolunteers #FriendshipAndCare #CaringForOthers #VolunteerAdvice #GreekAmerican #StGeorgeUT #GivingBack #VolunteeringJourney #PatienceAndCompassion

The voluntary act of freely giving your time, resources, skills and energy to benefit others is known as volunteering. Engaging in volunteer opportunities brings you some level of satisfaction and a sense of purpose. Other benefits of volunteering include building your social skills, making new friends, advancing your career and learning new skills. Try volunteering if you are unemployed and job hunting. It's a fulfilling altruistic act. When I wrote about public speaking, volunteering with Ask The Paediatricians foundation, where I addressed secondary school students and teachers during health talk sessions, formed part of my public speaking training. Have you ever volunteered for community benefits? How did it make you feel? Would you do it again if an opportunity presents? #linkedin100 #volunteering #healtheducation

For the last few years, I have had the honor of volunteering with Dallas CASA, an organization that recruits, trains, and supervises community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in protective care. Volunteering with this organization has not only been eye-opening, but heart-breaking at times. As an advocate for these children, our work involves meeting with kids on a monthly basis, advocating for their interests in court, and addressing any issues they face in school, health, or other areas of their lives. One of the most jarring realizations is that in many cases, there isn’t anyone else beyond us looking out for the kids. There is no backup. The system is overloaded and isn’t designed to deal with the complex problems that arise for these kids. The job of the advocate is to be that person that takes action and does all they can to intervene in the child’s life. This work is a reminder that as each of us observes the problems we have in this world, we can’t simply rely on the system or expect others to step up. It's easy to assume there are already measures in place or that someone else will take care of it. In reality- if we want to see change or make an impact, we have to do it ourselves. When we see issues in our community, we owe it to each other to bear the responsibility of change. We need to recognize that each of us has the power to make a difference. By getting involved, we can help bridge the gaps and provide innovative solutions or much-needed support where it’s needed most. Whether it's through volunteering, advocacy, or simply being a voice for the voiceless, every action counts. #CommunityImpact #VolunteerWork #DallasCASA #ChildAdvocacy #TakeAction

Co-founder at Volunteero. Helping voluntary organisations manage volunteers more effectively using technology 🚀🚀 Save time, boost volunteer productivity and attract more volunteers all with one platform.
Quick mum update... Mum is about to surpass 3 full days of volunteering!! That is 72 hours dedicated to improving the lives of older people in her community 🥹 #BemorelikeDebby I love getting a message like this from my wonderful mum. She throws on her Volunteero merch to make her weekly calls to the older people she befriends!! 💜 When we started Volunteero, Mum jumped at the opportunity to volunteer for one of our clients... partly to support me but also partly because she had always considered volunteering but never actually managed it. Mum is not alone. I speak to people daily who say they want to volunteer but always the reasons for not doing so are the same: 1. Don't know where to get started 🤔 2. Worried it won't be flexible 🤯 3. The process is poor 🫣 This is exactly why we do what we do. We want to get the world volunteering and we want the impact of volunteering to be higher by empowering volunteers to do more! p.s. if you wonder what she is on about when talking about my dad, he spends his days investigating conspiracy theories on some sketchy TV channels. #volunteering

Do you know what the best way to support children's mental health is? Support their families. Get children's start in life right, help parents reduce stress, help them understand attachment, help them learn how to interact and enrich their child's life and most importantly tackle parents loneliness and low mood. You can do this is many way, but Home-Start do it brilliantly. Just two hours a week could transform the early days of a new families life. #volunteering #childrensmentalhealthweek
The families we help are just like you and me – parenting is hard and without support it can be overwhelming. If you are considering volunteering 2 hours a week you can rest assured that you will be supported by the Home-Start team throughout your volunteering journey. You will: - Receive free, flexible trainings and ongoing support - Be expertly matched with a family based on location, personal experience, and many other factors - Have access to a community of fellow volunteers and Home-Start staff available to talk and advise Could you spare an hour or two to help a family in your local area each week? It's not about how much time you have, it's how you spend it. One of my team members had a goal to volunteer, but couldn't figure out when to do it even with Volunteer Time Off time allowed. I suggested they pick a day, request the time off now and plan to volunteer at that time. This morning, I volunteered at Hope Helps to pack bags of food for local children so they can have food during spring break. We packed 182 bags. How do you find ways to turn time into quality time? #volunteering #timemanagement #qualitytime

Community Spotlight: Julie Workman's Heartwarming Volunteer Journey 🌍 Why Operation Christmas Child? I chose to volunteer with Operation Christmas Child because it aligns with the passion of our church. Each year, we come together to gather items that bring joy to children and families in need worldwide. It's a powerful way for us to be the hands and feet of the Lord, spreading love and hope to those less fortunate. 💡 A Glimpse into the Impactful Experience: Walking into the processing center was truly eye-opening. Witnessing the dedication and effort it takes to bring the boxes from our churches to the final steps before shipping was remarkable. Each box is meticulously examined to ensure it radiates the love of Jesus, providing a moment of joy amid daily struggles for these children. 🤝 Advice for Colleagues Interested in Volunteering: Make it a mission to put smiles on faces, not just for self-gratification, but because you genuinely want to make a difference in someone else's life. Embrace volunteer work with the intention of bringing joy and positive change. Together, let's create a ripple effect of love and kindness! #HCJCommunityInvolvement #VolunteerJourney #MakingADifference

“Beyond Relaxation: Volunteering with Tribal & Orphan Children Fulfills the Soul” Those children came to this world, but to be an orphan or to be born into a place with limited opportunities is not their mistake. Yet, they face challenges that most of us cannot even imagine. In our bustling lives, we often seek moments of relaxation and tranquility. We plan trips, book vacations and look forward to escaping the routine. However, there is a way to find true fulfillment and relaxation that goes beyond mere recreation: spending a day with tribal or orphaned children who desperately need our support. Imagine gathering your colleagues and friends, not for a usual outing, but for a meaningful day dedicated to bringing joy and support to these children. Just one day can make a world of difference in their lives and leave your heart feeling fulfilled and content. Many corporate organizations pride themselves on their contributions to society. Yet, these efforts often remain concentrated within urban areas. It's time to extend our helping hands to the suburban, hillside and remote village regions where help is desperately needed. By reaching out to these areas, we can ensure that our efforts truly make a difference where they are needed most. So many of us pray for good fortune and wish for a happy life. Let us pray our wishes to God, and as He/she fulfills them, let's offer our gratitude by providing for these needy children in various forms. Be it food, clothing, books, or educational support, every small contribution counts. When we serve those in need, we are indeed serving God. Organize a day where you and your colleagues visit this kind of children’s. Spend time with them, understand their world, and provide the support they need. Your visit will not only bring smiles to their faces but also offer you a deep sense of inner peace and satisfaction. Be the Joy bring the joy.... Discover the unexpected joy in giving back Have you ever considered giving your time to help the common good? That's the essence of volunteering, a concept we celebrate nationally this week during National Volunteers Week. Reflecting on my own journey into volunteering, I'm reminded of a pivotal moment in my life. Years ago, at a career crossroads and feeling burned out from corporate life, I found myself unsure of what I wanted to do next. It was during this uncertain time that my curiosity led me to a simple banner that asked, "Are you a good listener?" My response was twofold: a resounding "Yes" from within and a physical leaning forward, a sign of eagerness that I've learned to trust. That moment marked the beginning of my journey as a Lifeline Telephone Crisis Supporter—a role I've cherished and committed to weekly ever since. Volunteering isn't just about giving; it's about being an active, caring member of your community. For me, it has been an enriching experience that not only helped me hone my listening skills but also deepened my connection with those around me, adding immense meaning to my life. This Volunteers Week, I encourage you to explore how you might also contribute. Whether it's listening, teaching, building, or sharing; your skills and time can make a profound difference. And who knows? It might just change your life the way it changed mine. #NationalVolunteersWeek #Volunteering #CommunityService #GiveBack #LifelineVolunteer
