📔 Our conversation started with an orphanage in Hoi An where we both were. Together with Vietnamese charity organizations, there are groups of people and communities that support the orphanage with food, books, activities, and more, mostly during short-term visits. While this can address the immediate needs, the underlying problem still remains. I’ve joined some of these efforts, and the biggest question I have is, “How could this be improved with the ‘right’ long-term support in education, mindset, skills, etc.?” It’s not about making them top students or ensuring they attend the best universities; it’s about guiding them to build a journey and set goals for a better life, especially at a young age. (of course, everyone needs this, but it’s particularly critical for them.) Coincidentally, I had the chance to discuss this with Weh, a foreigner, in Australia, with an outside and different perspective. Diving into the book and will be back with this post when I finish. This topic is never easy for me to discuss and provide perspective on ~ And finally, the audio version is now available. Kudos to Weh Yeoh!
🎧 It's finally here! 🚀 The long awaited audiobook version of Redundant Charities is now available, via my website and Gumroad. You can get the audiobook directly from me! I'll provide the links in the comments to both the audiobook, ebook, and the bundle of both. Q: How long is it? How long did it take you to record? A: 3 hours and 4 minute; somewhere around the 7 or 8 hour mark Q: How many mistakes did you make along the way? A: About 4 billion, unless you include unintended squelching noises, in which case let's round up to 10 billion Q: Why did you decide to self release and not put it on Audible/Spotify? A: Mostly because those business models are broken, unless you're Obama and sell a squillion downloads, they essentially kill off smaller creatives with insanely high fees Q: What did you learn along the way? A: I learnt SO many things, including that I had no idea how to pronounce the word "albeit" (thanks Google for saving the day!) Q: How did you manage to record it? A: I've actually never really been sure when I was going to do the audiobook, but an absolute angel in the form of Paul Day popped up in my inbox to offer help, and a month or so later we were creating it together. It goes without saying that this audiobook wouldn't have been complete if it wasn't for Paul's generosity - thank you so much! 🙏

Dear Friends, Over the last 43 weeks on Substack, I've been sharing what I did to survive on this planet from 1977-1988. It is a memoir called '9 Holidays I wish I had Never Been On'. It is sad and very funny. It's been a thrilling journey and have picked up a few hundred readers on the way. I want to take it to the next level and wanted to pitch you the Kickstarter. The Crazy Idea Wouldn't it be astounding if you could create an audiobook based on an experience of childhood Domestic Violence, that could be super-helpful in training trauma therapists, as the book would be the full case history. The Less Crazy Idea Hey, wouldn't it be fun if you could create an audiobook, that was enhanced with AI that you could talk to? It's never been done before. Just for the fun of it. It would be a complete first in the world of life writing. It would involve developing an interactive small language model that would have some elements of independent life. The simple First Step. Hey, Wouldn't it be great to make an audiobook of what Chris Hogg did to survive from 1977-1988 If you feel that this is something that could be enlightening to get on board with and support, then there is a Kickstarter that's running for 23 days. https://lnkd.in/eeZu5b3Y Christopher Hogg

A book is a very good way to do this. A book can not only position you in the market, establish credibility and authority, it can be the gateway into your world, one filled with other products and highly profitable offerings. So, here’s the takeaway. You can be a great technician.
