Emirates President, Tim Clark, stated on Thursday that the airline would refrain from purchasing Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 jet engines until assured of their durability. This decision comes after previous apprehensions voiced by Clark, prompting Rolls-Royce to announce measures aimed at enhancing its engines’ durability in 2023. Viking Air Limited is a Victoria-based company, a global leader in utility aircraft services, and the manufacturer of the renowned Series 400 Twin Otter. They have found great success as CCC’s partners through the International Prime Contractor service. Viking Air secured its first contract with the Peruvian Air Force in 2010, with the sale of 12 Series 400 Twin Otters. More contracts followed in 2016, 2017, and 2020. Air France -KLM CEO Ben Smith talks about the surprise move on SAS. SAS had been on the AF/KL radar for a while. The next moves are: Intergrate SAS in the North-Atlantic Joint Venture with Delta, migrate SAS from Star to SkyTeam and within the next two years AF/KL to become majority stake holder in SAS. Interesting SAS will be the first airline ever that was one of the founding partners of an airline alliance, to depart from Star Alliance and move to a competing alliance (SkyTeam)! Another surprising fact is that SAS looks like to be owned (indirectly) by three governments, Denmark, Holland and France! This as a result as AF/KL major owners are Holland and France, while Denmark will own 25,8% of «New SAS». It is not the first time KLM did a surprise move on an airline in Scandinavia, in the late 90s KLM took a minority stake in Braathen SAFE, an airline in Norway. This did not turn out to any success and Braathens was merged into SAS in 2001, though the brand Braathens was discontinued by SAS in 2007. Well, its not a flight on autopilot to reach these milestones going forward, the AF/KL takeover must be approved by the Chapter-11 judge/court in New York and EU regulatory body, maybe others too.
