AUSTRALIAN SKILLS PASSPORT SYSTEM to CONNECT WORKERS and EMPLOYERS The federal government has introduced a commendable initiative: "With a passport, you can travel; with a skills passport, you can secure employment". However, the specifics of this program are still in the early stages of development and have yet to be finalised. Nevertheless, it promises to offer a valuable platform for skilled professionals to gain recognition and connect through a nationwide skills passport system…” remarked Wee-Oon Chief Executive from OZemployment. This passport system aims to facilitate workers in showcasing their comprehensive qualifications, micro-credentials, prior educational achievements, workplace experience, and general proficiencies. Under this proposal, a professional worker's qualifications would be securely stored in a digital format, much like My Health Record national system. Furthermore, it is anticipated to unify various reform initiatives, including changes to the migration system, under a single overarching framework. "The positive impact is achieved through the sharing of data among professionals and employers. However, when we look at skills data for a group or population, its significance grows even further. It helps gain insights into employment requirements, formulating effective policies, and devising more informed plans” … adds Wee-Oon OZemployment.com.au focuses on addressing professional skilled labour shortages and in the past year, has conducted extensive research on the top 150 in demand job categories, with 300,000 available positions across Australia. hashtag #OZemployment hashtag #SkilledLabour hashtag #SkilledEmployment hashtag #Diversity hashtag #Equality https://lnkd.in/ghKXk8RA

I appreciate you Bruce Raganold for inviting me to join you on Monday at the Canadian Club of Ottawa event on Innovation, Sustainability, and the Future of Work. Thank you National Arts Centre | Centre national des Arts for hosting … I’m still reflecting on the future of our workforce —everything from skills shortages and the environment to lagging productivity and looming retirements. From keynote speaker, the Hon. Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages: - Businesses need more skilled workers to perform at capacity. Last year, Canada saw $25 billion in unrealized economic value due to skills vacancies. - We have 706,000 vacancies and 1.2 million people looking for work. We need to help more qualified job seekers find work. - To boost productivity, employers need to build education and training into their business models. - Canada is #3 globally for foreign direct investment (#1 per capita) and poised to become a manufacturing leader as world supply chains reorganize and global allies re-shore and friend-shore. We will need talent to fuel this shift. - We’re currently speeding up credentialling for healthcare workers, dentists, nurses and more, so we can fill critical jobs faster. - In Canada, 85% of women participate in the workforce. We need to keep showing girls they can do anything (i.e., build the future hydrogen plants and join the skilled trades). And from Dr. Wendy Cukier, the Founder and Academic Director, Diversity Institute; and Research Lead, Future Skills Centre: - The immigration system is not broken. Yes, Canada needs to bridge skills gaps, but all workforce growth will come through immigration. - We need to close pay gaps for those with equal qualifications. Skilled newcomers are underemployed and qualified people with disabilities have the same employment outcomes as high school dropouts. - Green is key for the jobs of the future. Young people look for jobs where their values align with the business. All businesses and all jobs will need to highlight a commitment to the environment to attract new talent. Thank you, Canadian Club of Ottawa, for this enlightening event. I came away with new thinking about skills requirements, leveraging technology to fill skills gaps, and creating more inclusive workplaces for all. Great to connect with you Shirley Tolley, Kerry Smith, Jennifer Cross, Soley Soucie 🌳 and Dr. Wendy Cukier. #futureofwork #womeninwork #newcomerstocanada
