🎵 Calling upon the Global Maestros of Music Production and the Spin Masters of the DJ World! 🌍🎧 🚀 Let's embark on a symphonic journey into the intricate challenges that define our global landscape of music creation and DJing, where the melodies transcend borders, but the legalities are as complex as a multi-layered composition! 💡 As architects of sonic innovation, we stand at the forefront of a dynamic industry, where creativity knows no bounds, but the path to protecting our intellectual property is riddled with nuanced hurdles. 🎶✨ Here's an in-depth exploration of the paramount challenges we encounter: • Navigating the Legal Harmonies: 🌐 In a world where music transcends borders, navigating the labyrinth of international copyright laws is akin to composing a complex symphony. Consider the challenge of sampling – securing the rights to use snippets of existing tracks in our productions requires meticulous attention to the intricate legal frameworks of each jurisdiction. • Harmonizing Royalty Streams: 💸 As our compositions reverberate across global airwaves and digital platforms, ensuring that we receive fair compensation for our artistic endeavors becomes a symphony of its own. Monitoring royalty streams, negotiating agreements, and combating discrepancies demand the precision of a virtuoso conductor. • Confronting the Digital Pirates: ☠️ The digital age has brought forth a tidal wave of piracy, threatening to drown our creative endeavors in a sea of illicit copies and unauthorized distributions. Protecting our intellectual property against digital pirates requires fortitude and innovative strategies to safeguard our livelihoods. • Crafting Melodic Contracts: 📝 Collaborating with labels, agencies, and distributors necessitates a delicate dance of negotiation. Crafting contracts that balance the protection of our creative rights with the pursuit of lucrative opportunities demands a nuanced understanding of legal intricacies and industry dynamics. But amidst these challenges lie the crescendos of opportunity and innovation: Consider the emergence of blockchain technology as a symphony of transparency in royalty management, promising greater accountability and fairness in our financial arrangements. 🎵💿 Or reflect on the power of collective action through industry alliances, such as the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM), orchestrating harmonies of advocacy and empowerment on a global scale. 💪💿 So, let us, as guardians of creativity, unite in our pursuit of harmony amidst the cacophony of challenges. 🚀🎶 Eager to join this symphonic discourse? Share your experiences, insights, and strategies in the comments below, and let's continue orchestrating the evolution of our global music landscape! 🎧🌍 https://lnkd.in/d-2fk6rM #CopyrightComplexities #InnovationSymphony

The MusicCaps dataset was designed by Agostinelli et al. to generate high-fidelity music from text descriptions. It was recently used as part of Melody Is All You Need For Music Generation, by Wei et al. https://lnkd.in/dmFF_CrF The authors present the Melody Guided Music Generation (MMGen) model, the first novel approach using melody to guide the music generation that, despite a pretty simple method and extremely limited resources, achieves excellent performance. Specifically, they first align the melody with audio waveforms and their associated descriptions using the multimodal alignment module. Subsequently, they condition the diffusion module on the learned melody representations. This allows MMGen to generate music that matches the style of the provided audio while also producing music that reflects the content of the given text description. To address the scarcity of high-quality data, they construct a multi-modal dataset, MusicSet, which includes melody, text, and audio, and will be made publicly available. They conduct extensive experiments which demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model both in terms of experimental metrics and actual performance quality. I have provided an overview of the main features of this dataset, such as accessibility, suggested uses, labelled features etc. at https://lnkd.in/dCRuGHdc

I help you to navigate modern AI and to make value from it. I build and drive high-performing and happy innovation teams in AI / Machine learning for machine sensing and audio processing.
Fun facts about music patterns 🎶😅 Did you know that Gorillaz’s “Clint Eastwood” song was built from a Suzuki Omnichord preset without changing it nor adding anything else than the vocals? https://lnkd.in/e7bF7fvx Or that Usher’s “Love in this club” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella”(-ella-ella) are taking Apple Loops quite literally? (Usher: https://lnkd.in/e3w2SgKK Rihanna: Vintage Funk Kit 03) ☔ So GenAI would not be the first time that someone builds a hit song from literal machine presets. 🤖🥇 That questions the role of voice, human agency and audience: 1) Voice: Is it the emotion in the singing and the mind-stirring lyrics that make these hit songs? Or are the musical patterns and the voice/lyrics an unbreakable whole? I tend to think that voice and vocal emotion are contributing a lot to musical impact and audience connection - including in electro and EDM. Technologically, that questions the quality of emotion rendering in modern vocal synthesis. Artistically, that validates the human singer automatic music machine setup. 🤖🎤👩🏻🎤 2) Human agency: Imagine a gradient of human agency. At one end, playing all acoustic instruments by hand. Somewhere in the middle, a quantised MIDI samples score. At the other end, fully AI generated songs or Apple loops, agency reduced to curation. Or something else in the middle? I’ve had fun playing with Rishi Babu/Pitch Innovations’s GrooveShaper: just enough patterns but also just enough control to have fun and agency. Or Philippe Pasquier's Multitrack Music Machine (MMM https://lnkd.in/esBJvrgC): it conditionally generates MIDI tracks modifiable by hand. When it comes to "empowering everyone to create music", where is the sweet spot? ✍🏻❓ 3) Audience: Is it all marketing? Or is it culture? Are we seduced by the whole Gorillaz universe which blends comics, critical thinking about the environment, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s big personalities? Do these hit the spot of many of us dreaming to love in this club or to shelter a dear friend under our umbrella(-ella-ella)? Or “man stop thinking too much it just sounds good”? But then if considering automatic music generation products we have to wonder: how and why does it sound good, and does AI-generated music actually sound good? (Ask Rick Beato: https://lnkd.in/exGFpStE) Will the audience’s taste and musical culture start shifting as a result of a flood of automatic music? 👨👩👧👦💹 Yesterday I was searching for B-Girl Ami’s Olympic performance on YouTube and gave up due to too many auto-generated videos devoid of that content. Will an excess of technology prompt creators and audiences to evade tech in aid of fully organic music, like Italo Calvino's character https://lnkd.in/e-Y6fmru who achieves freedom by stopping to read? 😎 The “creator empowerment” narrative might need more careful consideration... What do you think? 🤔⬇️
