For our 9th Day of Mindful Christmas we are doing charity shout outs. 🎄 A charity I got particularly connected to during my MScR is FareShare South West. As some of you may know, I spent one year of my academic career carrying out research on sustainable food systems in Bristol. Of course during that time FareShare’s work on surplus food redistribution could not go unnoticed. I was also a volunteer at the Wellspring Settlement Food Club, which partnered with this amazing charity to redistribute food to those suffering from food insecurity. Every year we waste over 3 million tonnes of perfectly good to eat food in the UK, which often has not even reached supermarket shelves before going to the bin. FareShare’s work not only helps avoiding waste, they also help individuals feel less isolated and have better diets, improving both physical and mental health. Their work inevitably helps the environment too, as for every tonne of surplus food they redistribute, they prevent 2 tonnes of CO2e and 2.66 million litres of water from being wasted. You gather your friends and get pairings to share. We take a trip to Napa Valley with a selection of 6 wines. I guide you thru thru the wines and people choose their favorites and place an order to be delivered to their home. 10% of each purchase is given to a nonprofit you choose. 2) Pampered Chef: I co-host a fundraiser either online or in-person. Invite your friends to am online event about 4 days long and there are games, recipes, and cooking suggestions. People place orders for household and cooking items. 10%-15% will be donated to a nonprofit you choose. I love my businesses and helping you raise money for Causes You Believe In!!
