More than 500 patients have benefitted from our three surgical robots over the last year. It's a year to the day since we revealed our second robot, following a £1.5 million fundraising campaign by actcharity Mr David Power was one of the first patients to benefit. Despite major surgery, David was home the next day, rather than the seven to 10 days expected after traditional open surgery. The robots have helped with a wide range of conditions, cut waiting lists, and fuelled ambitions for a fourth robot, which would make Addenbrooke’s one of the leading robotic surgical centres in the UK. With National Robotics Week (April 6-13) underway, we're excited to share some fun facts about Coastal Carolina Hospital's surgical robots! Did you know that Coastal Carolina Hospital (CCH) has not one, but TWO da Vinci Xi robots? We have three general surgeons, seven gynecologists, and two urologists who utilize the da Vinci Xi platform and perform an average of 3-6 robotic-assisted surgeries daily! Minimally invasive robotic surgery, like the da Vinci surgical system, allows surgeons to operate on patients using much smaller incisions. The advantages of the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery may include less tissue trauma, less pain, fewer chances of scarring, faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. #RoboticsWeek
