30 second rule! Teaching our students the 30-second rule can go a long way in promoting kindness and preventing intimidation as adults. The rule is simple: only comment on something that the other person can change in 30 seconds, like reminding them to tie their shoelaces. But if it's something that can't be changed quickly, like shedding weight or changing hair color, it's best not to comment at all. Remember, words have power, and it's up to us to use them wisely. Let's make the right choices and promote positivity! #schoolleadership #traininganddevelopment

In today's world of carefully curated social media personas and fierce competition, it's easy to be overly critical of ourselves. Yet, true justice starts from within. Are we being too harsh in our self-talk, or perhaps giving ourselves too much slack? Justice isn't limited to courtrooms - it manifests in the way we interact with others and the compassion we extend to ourselves. As we navigate the week ahead, let's strive to be free and fair in our thoughts, actions, and relationships. By practicing self-compassion and fairness, we can cultivate a more just, balanced, and fulfilling personal life. #MindfulMonday #JusticeWithin #SelfCompassion #PoetryInspires #PersonalGrowth #ConsciousLiving #IntrospectiveReflection

Daily Tip: When your child is having an off day, rather than jump through hoops trying to cheer them up or decipher the hidden messages behind their words and behaviors, simply be honest with them. Say “You seem sad today. Is something bothering you?” When you approach a child (or adult) with genuine curiosity and a supportive attitude, you’d be surprised at how often they’ll open up. Remember, don’t judge, don’t try and fix it and don’t invalidate their feelings. Just listen. Often that’s all they really want and need. #ConnectionCenteredDiscipline #nanny #parenting

While you can't control your children, you can control someone who has a tremendous influence on how your children relate to each other—you. You are their first teacher of empathy, kindness, and respect. How you navigate relationships, solve conflicts, and show compassion shapes how they'll do the same. Sure, it’s not always easy. We have our moments of frustration and uncertainty. But remember, every effort you make—every smile, every listening ear, every patient explanation—matters more than you know. So, embrace your role as their guide. Show them the beauty of empathy and the strength in kindness. Be the example they'll look up to as they navigate their own relationships. Because in the end, while we can’t control everything, we can certainly lead by example. Want to learn how to better connect with your children? How do you handle your teen's rebellion? Punishments? Or truly listening to their story? Overlooking the messages inherent in our children’s actions unintentionally communicates that their feelings are inconsequential. Relying on rewards and punishments fosters the notion that we are indifferent to their sadness, anger, or loneliness—we merely desire them to behave impeccably. Almost like robots. When we attempt to manipulate our children’s conduct by rewarding actions categorized as “good” and penalizing those deemed “bad,” we set in motion the Three Rs: Resistance, Rebellion, and Retaliation. But what does that mean? It took years to make friends with my inner critic. I just didn’t know how to handle the continual stressful stream of negative inner chatter without drinking. On some days, the snipes came straight out of nowhere and the nasty ‘mean girl’ got ever louder -it just didn’t go away! It got to such a point in my early sober days that I had to laugh. A lot of the chatter was now well and truly ‘beetle juice’, and I began to see the funny side, so I’d laugh. 🌟 Do You Have An Inner Betty?🌟 I finally called my inner minx of a critic ‘Betty’ after Bet Lynch, the pub landlady from Coronation Street's old days. She always made me chuckle. I’m a Northern lass with Northern humour, so Betty was perfect. Fag hanging out of her mouth, big hair, leopard skin, boobs out, gobby git, cynical on the outside but sensitive deep down.. perfect!! So, what happened then? I embraced her in my mind with a warm Northern hug and Northern banter. You see, Betty was not a separate entity; she was and still is part of me. Now, because I listen and don’t push her away or deny she exists, I have to embrace all of me. Today, she’s much quieter, but when she does come up, it’s okay. I accept and understand myself every which way, and it feels lighter. In what ways do you tame your inner critic? #innercritic #allofme #innerchatter #drinking #acceptance
