Are you affiliated with a program, group, or organization that addresses community needs through volunteer support? We want to hear from you about the specific needs and focus areas that you address in your work. Volunteers are critical to meeting Virginia's most pressing needs. Through the Virginia Community Engagement Index (VCEI), we learned that Virginians identified education, health and well-being, and housing as the top needs in their communities. Now, we're curious to learn more about organizations across the Commonwealth that are engaging volunteers in addressing these and other community needs. By collecting information about the specific needs that organizations and groups address locally, Serve Virginia hopes that we can provide focused resources in the coming year while also helping connect like-minded organizations in Virginia. Are you a 501c3 working on economic issues in support of people and the planet? We need your voice. As we prepare for a monumental presidential election this November, we all must play a role in securing a better future for our communities. To us, this means leaning into policy conversations, even if policy-related work is outside the traditional purview of your organization. Over the last 20 years, nonprofits have engaged in less and less of this work at the cost of winning on people-centric economic policies. At Common Future, we’re on a mission to change that. To support nonprofits lean back into economic policy change, we’re building an actionable toolkit to connect and support nonprofits in their journeys. Whether or not policy is part of your work today, we'd love your input in this survey to better understand how YOU relate to the economic policy ecosystem. Only together can we rebuild civic and political power. Since we can't take you out for coffee, enjoy one on us as a thank you! https://lnkd.in/e5bX9Qki

Many community leaders and active citizens tell me that they are exhausted, worn out, and frustrated by the mounting challenges in our society and the difficulties in addressing them. Of course they are. You may be, too. There are days when I am. That's exactly why I launched a new nationwide campaign: "Enough. Time to Build." I am undertaking this civic campaign to show that we need not give in to negativity or despair. There is an alternative, realistic, and hopeful path forward. It starts in our local communities. It’s there that we can see and hear one another. Where we can uphold dignity for all. Where we can grow our belief that we can get things done together. This campaign is to remind us of what is possible and what we are capable of. We can build stronger communities, together. And we can get started today with simple, practical steps. https://lnkd.in/gVkPqYVp

"In other words, when we and our communities are healthy and thriving, sexual violence decreases. Amazing, huh?" - Rachel West, Nebraska Coalition prevention and community development director Rachel's point was that by supporting economic stability, paid sick leave can also prevent violence. That's because poverty, financial stress, and low income can increase the risk of intimate partner violence. Financial stress may increase the potential for relationship conflict and dissatisfaction, which are strong predictors of abuse and aggression. Additionally, financial instability can increase dependence on a potential perpetrator. By voting FOR 436 on the Paid Sick Leave Initiative, your vote can help to prevent violence from happening in the first place. Learn more about the impact of your vote at https://ow.ly/lemY50Tt3MW.
