On Wednesday, the Federal Government reported that more than 115 projects will share in $215 million dedicated to preserving biodiversity and ecosystem restoration. To restore critical landscapes and habitats, tackle invasive pests and weeds, and prevent diseases, $115 million will be dedicated to 55 projects benefiting 20 priority locations listed in the Threatened Species Action Plan 2022–2023, including Queensland’s Brigalow Belt. An additional $100 million will fund 60 projects focused on pest management, habitat restoration, and improving water systems, such as the restoration of Australian Ramsar wetlands. This funding will be channelled from two existing initiatives – the $1.1 billion Natural Heritage Trust and the $224.5 million Saving Native Species Program – and will draw on the expertise of First Nations people, scientists, conservation groups, and community leaders. Doomed Cranberry Bogs Get New Life in Climate Fight CHANCE helical piles are being used as foundation support for elevated walkways as part of the "green wetlands strategy". The goal is to restore native wetland ecosystems from century old cranberry agriculture.  In the weeks and months ahead, CHANCE distributor Earth Anchoring Suppliers, will be posting progress updates on this important project to battle the effects of climate change. The project involves many organizations (including but not limited to) SumCo Eco-Contracting, Mass. Our oceans are at risk, with marine species on the verge of extinction and habitats rapidly disappearing. Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are the most efficient means to restore marine biodiversity and promote healthy coastal communities. On World Oceans Day, we at Sallaum Lines aim to shed light on our collaborative efforts to ensure the ocean’s health and well-being. Through our #BlueSpark Program, we support ecological monitoring and research within the Inhambane Bay Community Conservation Network and the enforcement of the network’s twelve community-managed MPAs. The Community Conservation Network protects vital ecosystems like mangroves, seagrass beds, and other estuary and wetland spaces, providing essential breeding, nursery, and foraging areas for fish and threatened species, including dugongs, dolphins, and sea turtles. Together, we strive to make a positive, lasting impact on Marine Conservation Institute, contributing to local communities’ long-term health and welfare. Grassland ecosystems in BC play a crucial role in supporting a diverse array of plant and animal species. Many of these species are specially adapted to these open, sun-drenched habitats, providing critical habitat for endangered species like the American badger and important foraging grounds for iconic species like the bighorn sheep. The rapid spread of Douglas-fir trees has emerged as a pressing concern, jeopardizing the delicate balance of these ecosystems. These tiny trees might seem harmless at first glance, but their unchecked growth poses a significant threat to the biodiversity and health of our grasslands. As these trees take root and expand their canopy, they shade out the native grasses that form the foundation of these ecosystems. This not only diminishes wildlife habitat but also undermines these grasslands’ ability to sequester carbon and mitigate climate change. Through the leadership, expertise, and stewardship of Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation, we’re ready to take action! We aim to preserve and protect these vital grasslands through sustainable land management practices, community engagement, and innovative solutions. 🏝The Caribbean ranks in the top 3 of the world’s 36 Biodiversity Hotspots, but its also facing the highest extinction rates in modern history. 🤝Fauna & Flora in partnership with Re:wild has restored 30 Caribbean islands in the past 30 years, safeguarding over a dozen species from extinction. This monumental effort not only revitalizes biodiversity but also bolsters ecosystem resilience against climate change. 🌐Small Island Developing States (SIDS) – many of which are in the Caribbean – are now at the center of multiple crises, including climate change and species loss. Fauna & Flora and Re:wild staff are at #SIDS4 in Antigua where leaders have come together to plan for the sustainable development of these nations, many of which are critical areas for biodiversity. Today, we celebrate World Rewilding Day, which honours the planet's life sustaining biodiversity as well as the efforts to restore and rejuvenate its natural ecosystems. At the Ecological Restoration Fund, we're proud to support rewilders worldwide, including The Wildlife Trusts, Rewilding Europe, Fundación Rewilding Chile, and the Beaver Trust. These organisations are at the forefront of ecological restoration, working to restore thriving habitats, bring back endangered species, and bring back the delicate balance of the planet's ecosystems.
