Ooo, this is a job that I would want if I didn’t already have one! DisMod-AT, the latest in its series, is able to model across age and time to account for shocks (like pandemics) and predict the fallout as cohorts age with much better accuracy than our current DisMod-MR (Bayesian meta-regression). And, it does it in a fraction of the runtime! Kudos to the folks who designed and developed it! You definitely want to work with them. #jobposting #research #datascience #epidemiology

📣📣📣 I’m starting my workweek with an approved #irb application. But first, I’d like to share a little backstory about this project. In 2020, I conducted 12 one-on-one semi-structured interviews with Black mothers with preterm birth (the study is in the comment section). My research hypothesized that Black mothers with preterm birth do not have access to mental health services. And true to my hypothesis, I found that approximately 70% of the women in my study did not receive mental health services, including referral services. However, another interesting pattern in the data was that before having a preterm birth, an overwhelming majority of the mothers were unaware of their health risks or were not educated about adverse birth events, which made them feel more stressed and worried. Then I thought, how much do young Black women know about reproductive health services, including preconception health? What if we started educating and empowering young people with evidence-based health messages before they begin giving birth? What if we integrated preconception health services into student health services in higher education? To do this, I needed to know about African American undergraduate female knowledge, awareness, and utilization of reproductive health services. That is why, as an initial formative qualitative research, I am mentoring one doctoral and six undergraduate students to: 🪻explore preconception health knowledge, awareness, and utilization, 🌼 Assess knowledge of familial health history and reproductive health service utilization 🌻 explore media representation of Black maternal health and reproductive health service utilization. I'm still a long way into this project, but some interesting patterns have emerged from preliminary data collected. My professional assignment is to keep exploring how to empower Black women to be the champions of their health, considering the Black maternal health crisis in the US. Please help repost our flyer to your network or contact me with any questions about the project. #research #researchers #qualitativeresearch #blackhealth #blackmaternalhealth #undergraduate #mentoring

S3x education isn't about biology; it's about teaching consent, respect and healthy boundaries. Access to accurate information about reproductive health empowers individuals to make informed choices about their bodies. These are big big topics our society needs to learn about, to help reduce so many issues in our world. A better understanding of consent shows a direct link to the reduction of s3xual violence and risky behaviours. Studies also show that women who receive comprehensive s3x education are more likely to make informed decisions about their bodies and health. This includes making choices about using contraceptives, seeking medical care when necessary, and understanding their sexual anatomy. Also it helps people feel more confident in their own bodies, lowering levels of low self-esteem and helping them feel better in themselves. #SexEdMatters #KnowledgeIsPower #BreakTheTaboo #SexEdAwareness #sexualwellness #sexeducator #sexualhealth #womensrights #sextherapist #sexualwellbeing #sexfluencer #sexinfluencer #sexcoach
