DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that an application for unfair dismissal must be filed within 21-days after the date of dismissal. Public holidays or weekends that fall during the 21 days will not extend this timeframe. The Fair Work Commission may extend the 21 days only if they are satisfied there were exceptional circumstances for not filing the application on time. This is not an easy criteria to satisfy so it is always best to file on time. Free-call 1800 812 953 to speak to one of our lawyers. Leading a team of marketing and communications recruiters across corporate and agency brands - Marketing Recruiter & Luxury Recruitment( 杰克逊罗丝招聘 )
Be Careful what you put out on any internet platform….just some careers advice for the young at heart…. We all know this is generally good advice for parents to give to their kids and its normally about posting photo’s or allowing anyone to take photo’s of you. In light of the latest Bill Ackman and many prominent US Law firms responses to the Ivy league students publicly signing support for various groups I really want to reiterate this. Not only do dodgy photo’s of you that were taken whilst you were young and reckless stay “out there” but so does anything you sign and put on the internet.. anywhere ! Try and remember that what you feel strongly about in your 20’s will almost certainly change by the time you get to 30… you’ll most likely feel embarrassed about things you once thought true… Perhaps this is a newfound version of “Cancel Culture” which I hope it is but please be very careful what you sign ! Many of the US’s largest Law firms and Wall street financial institutions have insisted on getting the full lists of the signatories and made it super clear they will never hire them ! Believe me you really don’t want powerful people wrecking your career before its started especially when you’ve done so well to get into an Ivy League / Oxbridge or RedBrick University… Just a word of warning 😊 #Billackman #recruitment #jobadvice

Summer is here, but we’re not taking a break! Join the HBA Labor & Employment Law Section on Tuesday, June 11, from 12-1 pm, at Brennan's of Houston, for our next CLE luncheon: The Future of Corporate DEI Initiatives – What’s an Employer or Plaintiff’s Lawyer to Do? Following the Supreme Court’s decisions on affirmative action in the education sector, many law firms and public-facing employers have become targets of litigation threats by interest groups set on challenging diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The Fifth Circuit’s August 2023 decision in Hamilton vs. City of Dallas may now pave the way for litigation challenging common aspects of employers’ diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The panelists will discuss employment law risks associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, how plaintiffs may use recent rulings to challenge employers’ selection, promotion, compensation, and termination practices, and ethical issues associated with advising and representing employers and plaintiffs in light of same. Presenters: Jamila S. Mensah, Partner, Norton Rose Fulbright Larry Stuart, Managing Principal, Stuart PC Register here: https://lnkd.in/gpUD_WUE #employmentlaw #laborlaw #laborandemployment #DEI #diversity #equity # inclusion #HBA #Houstonbar #CLE #networking

My first year of law school, I had an amazing opportunity. I successfully persuaded an employment law professor to allow me to accompany third-year law students on an excursion to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of an ACLU labor delegation. I wasn't even in the employment law class - the first year of law school was pre-programmed with core classes I had little interest in - but I welcomed the opportunity to learn firsthand about employee relations inside American corporations. Our journey to Mexico took us from Illinois to a Texan border town, where we crossed into Mexico and engaged with Mexican employees of U.S. corporations who were enduring significant hardships. These courageous individuals welcomed us into their homes and shared their poignant tales of adversity. They grappled with meager wages that failed to cover even basic necessities like weekly groceries and toilets (some used buckets), endured workplace injuries that left lasting scars on both their bodies and lives, and navigated grueling hours that made childcare an unattainable luxury. Little did I know that this eye-opening experience, nearly two decades ago, would be the foundation of my career as an employment attorney dedicated to resolving disputes for American employees and corporations alike. I am thrilled to share the knowledge and insights I've gained over the past two decades through employment law webinars this fall. I will be producing content for both employees and corporations. More information coming soon!
