๐ A new chapter in powder bed fusion of plastics is upon us! ๐ One limitation in powder bed fusion of plastics is the current low productivity. Our latest experiments have proven an increase of productivity by a factor of 4 by using a 120 W laser from Iradion Laser and a defocused laser beam of a size up to 1000 ยตm. Even more impressive is that we can increase the density of the parts with this novel big-spot strategy. ย This is a significant breakthrough for PBF, as it allows the production of high-performance plastic components at much faster speeds. Colibrium is a new name. My guess it is the first step in divesting the additive division from GE Aviation (which is GEโs core business). Not clear why additive would be a fit for GEโs new business model. Selling machines and services in a saturated market where GE has little advantage over competitors is not attractive. Valuations for 3D printing companies are extremely low so Colibrium doesnโt help GE stock price either. Time to sell!
