Yesterday I travelled to Wembley with my son to watch my beloved team Bolton Wanderers lose in the League 1 Playoff Finals. I say lose but in fact we didn’t even show up. Surely they must have wanted it and done all the prep and I know they can play brilliant football as I’ve seen it at times throughout the season. So how come on this day when it really mattered, with so much at stake did they fail. They are professionals and this is their game so how could it go so miraculously wrong. Was it nerves and the occasion? Could they sense the pressure and the tension from the crowd? Did they actually want it enough? Where was the sense of team? What did the manager, their leader, say to them at half time? I had hoped that we would come out looking a much better side after a team talk but we didn’t. Should he have made earlier changes when they just didn’t settle into a rhythm before there was no time to make a comeback? I am sure many will be analysing, and questioning and working out what happened and I guess now that’s all we can do. Accept the defeat, learn the lessons and make the difference next season. At work, my team and I are focussed on being accountable, being consistent, sweating the small stuff, and when things go wrong, learning from failure. Oh and most importantly, working together as a team! Hopefully next season Bolton will learn the lessons; focus on the team, be consistent week in week out, stop dropping those easy points and secure automatic promotion so we are not left with one game and so much riding on it. Please 🙏 My nerves can’t take it ☺️

How do you respond when asked to play a role less than you desire? I remember the #DetroitTigers of the 1970s, and Gates Brown. He wanted to be a starting outfielder. And he did start occasionally. But he made the record books as a pinch hitter. See the records he still holds below. I think of Manu Ginoblli with the San Antonio Spurs. The 6th man. Led the second team. Now in the HoF. I could go on. Our job is to do the best in the role we are given. Not complain, not do less than our best. I believe when we do that things will work out. How do you serve in those roles? #personalgrowth #ProfessionalSuccess #intentionalliving

The Sergio Busquets Reverse Pass is so uncommon. It is so simple, so basic, yet I very rarely see young midfielders using it. Add it into your game to 📈 #footballtips #footballcoach #footballtraining #footballplayers #footballtactics #greenscreenvideo

### 🏆 Enzo Maresca's High-Pressure Masterclass: The Secret Behind Leicester City's Championship Triumph 🏆 Leicester City's triumphant campaign in the Championship this year has been a testament to their tactical prowess, particularly under the guidance of head coach Enzo Maresca. One of the cornerstones of Maresca's strategy is his relentless high-pressure system, which has been instrumental in their success. 🚀⚽ #### 🔍 High-Pressure Principles 1. **🔥 Intense Pressing**: Maresca's philosophy revolves around high-intensity pressing. Leicester City players are trained to close down opponents swiftly, especially the ball carrier, cutting off all passing lanes and options. This high pressure forces the opposition into making mistakes and ceding possession in dangerous areas. 💪⚔️ 2. **👥 Man-to-Man Marking**: At times, Maresca employs a man-to-man marking system. This approach ensures that every opposition player is tightly marked, suffocating their ability to progress the ball. The emphasis is on surrounding the ball carrier with multiple players to limit their vision and choices. 🔒🔵 3. **🎯 Dynamic Positioning**: Leicester City's players, particularly the central defenders (CBs), are crucial in this high-pressure system. When the opponent's striker drops between the lines to receive the ball, Leicester's CBs are quick to step forward, intercept, and disrupt the play. This aggressive movement not only cuts off potential passes but also initiates counter-attacks. 🚶♂️💨 4. **⚡ Coordinated Pressing Triggers**: One of the defining features of Maresca's pressing system is the coordinated triggers. As soon as the ball carrier attempts a pass, the nearest Leicester player, often a CB, launches forward to intercept. This preemptive action catches opponents off guard, leading to turnovers and attacking opportunities. ⏱️⚡ #### 📊 Success in Numbers Leicester City's adherence to these high-pressure principles has not only stifled their opponents but also created numerous scoring opportunities. Throughout the season, they have managed to score 13 goals directly from situations where their high-pressure tactics forced turnovers in advanced positions. 🥅✨ #LeicesterCity #FootballAnalysis #HighPressing #TacticalMasterclass #ChampionshipWinners #EnzoMaresca #SoccerStrategy Once Sport

🚀 Manchester United’s Set-Piece Struggles: Defensive Analysis ⚽ ### 📊 Set-Piece Statistics: - Goals Conceded: Out of the 58 goals Manchester United conceded this season, 16 came from set-pieces. - Percentage: This means that approximately 27.6% of their goals conceded were from set-pieces. ### 🔄 *Defensive Issues in Set-Pieces:* 1. *Poor Coverage:* Manchester United players frequently failed to cover crucial areas of the box effectively. This left significant gaps that opponents exploited to score goals. 2. *Man-Marking Challenges:* The team also struggled with man-marking, often allowing their assigned players to escape easily and find space in dangerous positions. 3. *Ball Watching:* Another critical issue was ball watching. Defenders focused too much on the ball rather than tracking their opponents' movements, leading to unmarked players and easy scoring opportunities for the opposition. Here's something wild that's served me beautifully in a variety of contexts: being willing to look stupid. The very first time I decided to play rugby union was at age 26 (long story). So in one of the very earliest training sessions in the season, coach called us together to do a bit of ruckwork. Now, to me, being uninitiated at the time, these rucks looked like total messes, bunch of big blokes rolling around the ground. So I said under my breath (I thought anyway) "I don't understand what's going on here." Now the skipper, (a man the size of a small mountain), happened to be stood nearby and overhead me say this. So he waves his arms and says: "everybody stop stop stop. Sam doesn't understand what's happening, let's break it down." So I go bright red feeling like a category 1 numpty, having interrupted 10 dudes busy hitting each other. And then skip and deputy skip have the guys go through the motions slowly and they point out the various parts of a ruck to me while the others looked on. The gates. Getting to one's feet. Getting over. Releasing the ball, etc. And it all snapped in place straight away and my rugby IQ went up like 25 points in about 5 minutes. Still, I couldn't wait for the end of training so I could get in my car, go home and scream into my pillow in embarrassment. Except before I could get to my car, four players came up to me and said: "hey man, we've been playing footy for 10 years and we didn't know half of all that. We're probably going to win at the weekend now, thanks for asking the question." I think we actually did win that weekend. And then about 5 weeks later I was appointed club secretary (in my first season.) So yeah, every once in a while, looking like an idiot pays off. #business #strategy #exitplanning #exitstory

One of the most underrated things in football is ‘not being in the same line as your team mates’. What does ‘being in the same line as your teammate’ mean? Being in a position where 1 of the opposition players can cut off the passing option of you as well as another 1 of your teammates at the same time. It’s little movements like this one in this video which create the situation where the opposition has to choose between cutting off your passing lane or your teammates. They cannot do both at the same time! #footballtips #footballplayers #footballtraining #footballtactics
