Interesting summary of some of the reasons Sphagnum mosses are so special.
Scotland is home to some very small mosses that pack a very big punch for our environment. To mark #nationalplanthealthweek our blog in this week's NatureScot Scotland's Nature celebrates our wonderful sphagnum mosses. Masters of their watery world, they are fascinating plants! https://t.ly/oDq0i

A Creative • Strategist • Visionary • Expansive Innovation Skills • Et_cetera • Profile is accurate. A short list of organizations benefiting from my expertise are mentioned in the About section.
Lady Byrd Johnson Wildflower Center, www.wildflowers.org Particular public figures gained my attention during elementary and high school. Their purpose in liberating people and protecting the environment is a theme amoungst them. Occassionally, I support their mission. My post today is to urge a love of flowers and recognize there is ability to share Earth. I worked ten months driving past and through cities on the east coast of the United States concerned about trees and noticed not enough flowers. Trees lined some highways and country roads with few flowers. I am not suggesting we stop planting trees at all. We need trees and they need us. I stopped to photograph trees and flowers randomly on country roads and cities as well as urban and rural locations. The stop I remember continuously includes different species of bees collecting pollen from the same flower. They shared the same flower peacefully taking turns until finished collecting pollen on that one flower. And, there was enough pollen left for others to collect on this or future days while the flower created seeds. Beyond this suggestion to plant flowers is the nudge to realize we can share Earth. Cultures can live and work together if managed egoless and, of course, with a purpose to realistically, because there are ego limits, to adapt responsible behavior patterns not angry behavior responses. #LadyByrdJohnson #wildflowers #flowers #environment #sharing #Earth

Imagine a world where every tiny seed blossoms into a force for change. 🌱 The movement for a greener, more sustainable future is happening, and it's fueled by the simplest of acts. It's about recognizing the power of nature, starting with the smallest elements of our ecosystem. Let's go wild together! Rebecca McMackin's passionate talk on letting our gardens grow wild is a testament to the impact we can have. She's not just a horticulturist; she's a visionary showing us that biodiversity can start in our backyards. Her enthusiasm is exactly the kind of infectious energy we need to inspire a global shift. Each of us holds the potential to make a difference. It begins with understanding the role we play in the natural world. By fostering wild spaces, we're not just gardening; we're creating habitats, supporting pollinators, and building resilience against climate change. Let's take a leaf out of Rebecca's book. Whether you have a sprawling garden or a modest balcony, consider how you can encourage wildlife. Plant native species, build a birdhouse, leave a corner untamed – every action counts. The beauty of this movement is that it's accessible to everyone. You don't need to be an expert; you just need to start. So, let's nurture our green thumbs and watch as our collective efforts bloom into something extraordinary. I encourage you to watch Rebecca McMackin's TED Talk and let it take root in your heart. Then, take that inspiration and let it grow into action. #gowild #rewilding

This furry fella is an underdog! When it comes to pollinators, many of us think of bees and butterflies, but what about moths? All of the pollinators play a crucial role in our ecosystem, but a study from the University of Sussex concluded moths might be more efficient pollinators than bees. When daytime pollinators clock out, moths clock in and work in the darkness to pollinate flowers at a faster rate than day-flying insects. Moths have shorter hours of night, causing them to be more efficient with their time. Check out the study here: https://lnkd.in/g3ztK7dx 📸: Rich Kostecke #Moths #Hereforever #Pollinator

https://lnkd.in/efbXd4eT My key words on my path are patience and perseverance. Gardening has taught me that in spades. When this grasslike volunteer popped up, I thought to myself it looked like corn. But I went on with the notion I didn’t know what the hell it was. I had wanted grasses, ancient grains to be specific, so I kept hoping it was what I had asked for. Well surprisingly it is, just not in the form I was expecting. I love the universe and the surprises it delivers!
