Celebrating 12 Years Of by charlotte! Back in 2012, renowned editorial makeup artist Charlotte Blakeney faced a turning point in her life. A severe back injury left her unable to stand for long periods, Charlotte faced an uncertain future. Determined not to let this setback define her, Charlotte sought solace and inspiration in Bali — a journey that would change her life forever. Amidst the serene beauty of nature, Charlotte was struck by the transformative power of the lotus; rising through murky water to bloom in sunlight and storm alike. Reflecting on her life during her time in Bali, she saw herself in the lotus's journey. This idea that beauty can emerge from even the darkest of places resonated deeply with Charlotte, and she began designing a piece of jewellery that would inspire compassion on the wearer’s path to self-discovery, just as the lotus had inspired her. This marked Charlotte's new beginning - an embrace of kindness, grace and self-compassion on her healing journey, and the inception of by charlotte. With just $5,000 in savings and no experience in the jewellery industry, Charlotte designed her first piece: the Lotus Necklace. Charlotte brought this creation to an editorial photoshoot featuring supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely, where it earned a spotlight on the cover of Harper’s BAZAAR. Soon after this serendipitous moment, her pieces graced magazine covers and adorned some of the world’s most influential women, including Kelly Rowland, Shanina Shaik and Miranda Kerr. Today, her mission to create meaningful jewellery remains at the heart of the brand. To honour our incredible journey, we ventured back to Bali with our dear friend and photographer; Emily Abay; to capture the essence of our iconic Lotus in its birthplace. #12YearsOfbycharlotte #StoryOfTheLotus #LotusNecklace #BrandOriginStory

📸 Preparing for Your Corporate Photo Shoot: Tips for a Professional and Confident Look 📸 Hey LinkedIn Network! A corporate photo shoot is a fantastic opportunity to make a strong impression, whether you're updating your LinkedIn profile, company website, or professional portfolio. Here are some tips to ensure you look your best and feel confident: Choose the Right Attire: Opt for professional attire that aligns with your industry and role. Solid colors often work best, as they keep the focus on you. Avoid overly bright patterns or distracting accessories. Grooming Matters: Make sure your hair is neatly styled and facial hair is trimmed or groomed. If you wear makeup, keep it natural and professional, and bonus tip ladies, keep the shine on your face to a minimum, it creates havoc with studio lights. Practice Your Pose: Stand or sit up straight and project confidence. A natural, relaxed smile often works best. Practice in front of a mirror if you’re unsure of your pose. Stay Hydrated and Rested: Ensure you’re well-hydrated and have had a good night’s sleep before the shoot. This will help you look refreshed and vibrant. Communicate with the Photographer: Discuss any specific preferences or concerns you have beforehand. A good photographer will work with you to capture your best angle. Be Yourself: The goal is to present an authentic version of yourself. Let your personality shine through your photos! Do you know how to tie a tie? I’m not sure how off the top of my head. Please, feel free to judge. It’s a bit embarrassing. I don’t wear a lot of ties though. Now, I would guess that most people, especially men know how to tie one, or a bow tie. Judging by the search, “how to tie a tie” on YouTube though, a lot of people don’t. Yesterday I got a hair and make-up test for our wedding in June, and had my first professional photoshoot. I needed some new photos to update my headshot for social profiles and my personal website. Also, now I have some great photos of me to feature on the MP Storytelling website. I was unsure what to wear for the photoshoot. I ended up going with something simple that would look clean on camera, and highlight the hair style and light makeup. I wore a white collared shirt with navy blue slacks and brought a couple ties with me. Now, I knew one of my nice ties (I have a collection of like 15 ties for some reason but never wear them) would add some flair, spice up the white shirt. The only problem was tying it. How was I going to find time to watch a YouTube video after finishing the styling and makeup, but before the photographer got there? I did have a few minutes in between the two, but got anxious about trying to figure this whole thing out in the stylist’s studio. I tried to watch a video on mute, but didn’t really get it. I went to see if I could do it in the restroom, but it was occupied. So I tried a couple times right there in the studio after watching the video on mute again and I looked like a fool. I kind of got it once, but the knot looked so scrunched and off-center. I put them back in my bag and told myself, “It’s better to go with what I already know looks good.” I was a bit upset at myself for not adding some extra flair, but I think more restraint was better in this case. The photographer said the photos turned out great. I’m not great with fashion, but I do like to write. Need writing help? I’m great at crafting website copy, professional bios, and creating stories that other people want to share and engage with. Message me today, and let’s give your writing a makeover.

How to best prepare for a photoshoot? I usually have a pre-consultation over the phone or at my studio about this, because it can definitely take away some of the anxiety of having your portraits taken. Wardrobe choices are important. It's good to think well about what you would like to wear, because that also can boost your confidence and bring excitement and fun. Neutral colors like dark brown, dark blue, gray usually work well. White can have a very fresh and modern vibe and bring some pop. Black is always classic and timeless. Although I do offer professional makeup with a photoshoot, it's less about emphasizing the 'make up', and more about evening out the skin tones and enhancing your wonderful features. And hair? Yes definitely important, even more so than the make up. It's a good idea to see your hairdresser some days before, and to wash you hair before the photoshoot. Hair has always been faszinating to me. My father was a hairdresser and I loved visiting his shop, and the feeling of renewal after a good hair cut. Ready for an image of the new you? I'd love to hear from you. #photoshootprep #baselportraitphotographer #websiteimagery #portraitphotographybasel #portraitphotography #womeninbusiness
