#DearProfessional Avoid the temptation to treat a colleague with contempt because another colleague sold a version of them that you have not experienced. So someone told you some hurtful things about another person and you go ahead to treat the other person wrongly even though you’ve not had any bad experience with the person. I’m still yet to understand the dynamics around this kind of behavior and It’s amazing how people inherit enemies who have never wrong them. 🌸Am I saying that you should open up yourself to hurt? Of course not! But at least Be wise! I recall a time I was about to resume at a particular organization, one of the employees reach out to me and told me some mean things about the people in the organization. Infact, she pointed out a particular individual and said she would like me to be careful about the person and when ahead to share some times I think weren’t necessary. Few months into my employment in the organization, I had a good rapport with the person, she had her flaws just as I had/still have mine and we built a very beautiful relationship. The young lady who bad mouthed my new friend was upset with me and started giving me some cold shoulder… I won’t be surprise if I hear that she has gone on to speak ill about me to another new hire. Relationships are bridges and people shouldn’t push you to burn bridges you need to grow as a professional. Managemnet tip if the day 20 May 24 . #24 Declining a Promotion with Grace👍 When offered a promotion, you might feel pressured to automatically accept. But what if it doesn’t feel like the right fit for you? Saying no can be daunting, but doing so gracefully is key to maintaining good relationships and advancing your career on your own terms. 1. First, understand why you’re hesitant. Is it a bad time personally? Are you simply happy in your current role? Reflecting on these reasons—perhaps with the help of a mentor or trusted colleague—can clarify your decision. 2. When declining, do so promptly and compassionately. An in-person conversation is ideal to express your gratitude and reasoning. Be straightforward and sincere and avoid any unnecessary details that might imply dissatisfaction with your current role or that you’re planning to leave the company. 3. If the role isn’t right due to specific tasks or timing, consider negotiating. Perhaps you can work with your manager to modify the role to better fit your needs, or you might even suggest an entirely different position that leverages your strengths and omits less-desirable responsibilities. 4. He felt stuck. We began working together. 6 weeks later, had a new job offer. 3x the daily responsibility and organizational visibility he worried wouldn't happen for him. We also negotiated $15k more on his base after the initial offer. Real story from recent client. When he came to me he thought he just needed a new resume and a pep talk. Instead, we we did real work together and discovered a lot of beliefs (many he was unaware of) keeping him from showing up the way he needed to. Beliefs such as: I've been hired by people that knew me, I don't deserve to be here I don't know as much as I should to be a leader Everyone else I work with has an advanced degree in this field Eventually they'll find out I'm not qualified and be exposed Everyone needs to like me These beliefs are normal, so why are they so difficult to overcome? Because our subconscious believes them so strongly. We've often given our subconscious evidence that these beliefs are correct for years. You can't willpower your way through it. You need a process to get at the roots. When we apply awareness and understanding to them we turn them into power. If you don't believe in your body you belong in the room, you're not getting in the room (or won't stay in the room). This applies to senior executives, sales people, and new grads. Stop faking it until you make it. There's only stress in faking it, because you don't believe it. It's possible to feel you belong, before you belong. Message me and we'll do it together.

SOME BIGGEST LESSONS TO LEARN IN THE CORPORATE WORLD: • Use your brain at work and emotions at home. •Nobody is your friend at the workplace. Trust me!! •If you can solve every problem of the management, They will always be by your side. •Never write/reply to any mail when you’re frustrated. •Your boss could be friendly, but at the end of the day, he is not your friend. Respect boundaries. •The relationship between Employer and employee is solely based on revenue. • Don't fear failure and rejection. • Follow up is the key to everything. • You'll meet some amazing people; learn from them. • Feed your subordinates with your maximum knowledge, encourage them, cheer them and eventually when they make breakthroughs, celebrate with them. The best thing you can give to a person is your knowledge. • Focus on developing and using your strengths. • Work until the work is done. • Learn how to change the situation, not the person. • Unless you ASK, you ain’t getting anything. • Effective communication, negotiation and leadership skills are a must to learn as early in your life as possible. • You’ll find a guy in every office who keeps bitching about everyone. Find that guy at the earliest. And stay a mile AWAY from that guy. • People are nice to you only when you are influential or they need you. Once the need or influence changes, so does their behavior. • Your manager hates you less than you think and likes you less than you think. • Shit travels up. If I complain to my boss, then he’ll complain to his, and so on. Never complain about your superiors to peers or staff. • In any company, everybody is a salesperson. If you are not selling anything, you are an expense. • Everyone is replaceable and you will eventually be replaced. • The nicest people in an office are the wolves in sheep’s clothing. Watch your back! • You will not be missed. People will forget you in less than 3 weeks after you quit a job. One of my friend had various disagreements with his manager on multiple aspects of work. After understanding that the manager would not be respecting his ideas or treating him any better, he decided to quit the job..... After a few months, my friend was selected for a different company's interview, but due to his bad luck, the hiring team approached his previous manager for a background check. His previous manager told the hiring team that the person was arrogant and inefficient. This resulted in him being rejected by the new company, although he was very talented in the field. My friend did not give up and tried his very best again, eventually landing safely at a different company. It's unfortunate that his previous manager's negative feedback impacted his chances at the new company, especially if it wasn't a fair representation of his skills and abilities. It's not uncommon for conflicts to arise between employees and managers, but it's important for both parties to handle them professionally. Even when faced with unjust setbacks, never let the opinions of others define your worth. Your true value lies in your talents, determination, and resilience. Use setbacks as steppingstones to greater success and remember that your skills will always shine brighter than any unfair criticism. #workplace #toxic #manager

Being authentic when you're hiring or looking for a new role is extremely undervalued. In many instances, people put on a facade with the hopes that it will make them appear at a level they are not currently at. When you hire and do this it sets a false expectation of what the role is, where the company is, and usually glosses over a lot of the challenges the company or team are facing. When you are looking for a new role, you're falsifying your skillset and could end up in a role that you are not qualified for. Aside from that, you now need to continue with this somewhat embellished persona that you have created for yourself. In any scenario, it's very important to be authentic as it ensures you are hiring the right person at the right time or walking into a role you can handle. Honesty, no matter the year or scenario, is always the best policy.

Have you ever decided to let your boss know you’re THINKING about leaving the company or team? Are you feeling transparency is a sign of respect? OR are you overusing your Character Strength of Fairness? When you’re working within your strengths, you’re in a comfort zone. Should you tell him? Or does telling him even though you might not leave just feel comfortable to you? Are you being fair or wanting comfort? Why not tell? While it's not inherently wrong to share your thoughts about potentially looking for a new job with your boss, consider the potential consequences and the dynamics of your workplace. Revealing that you're considering looking for a new job might lead your boss to question your commitment to your current role. In some cases, this could impact your job security, especially if your boss interprets this as a lack of dedication.  Your boss might just decide it’s safer for his management needs to just find your replacement.   You might be seen as lacking confidence in the company or as a signal that you're not satisfied with your current position. This could affect the way you're perceived within the organization. What if you decide not to leave or you just don’t find another job?   Some bosses might respond positively, offering support and understanding. Others might feel defensive or interpret it as disloyalty. It's crucial to have a good understanding of your boss's personality and communication style before sharing such information.   If you're looking to address concerns about your role or potential opportunities elsewhere, there might be more effective ways to initiate that conversation without directly stating that you're considering leaving. For instance, you could discuss your career growth, challenges you're facing, or desired projects. If you do decide to communicate your thoughts about potentially seeking new job opportunities, it's important to do so thoughtfully and professionally. Consider your relationship with your boss, your company culture, and the potential implications. In many cases, seeking guidance and support from mentors, career coaches, or trusted colleagues before having this conversation can provide valuable perspectives. This one probably won't get me too many likes, but good Gawd, do I get tired of seeing posts about how awful bosses are. "If that idiot I work for would just get out of my way and leave me alone, I'd be more productive!" Maybe some would. Most won't. Look - bosses have a job to do too. They have standards to meet. They have to hold people accountable because they are held accountable. And they have to coach, train, mentor, hire, and even fire people. There are reasons that those roles exist. Are there some bad ones out there? Sure. But there are a hell of a lot of good ones, too. And I know that my career wouldn't be the same without some that I've worked for. In fact, I'm going to call one out. Darren Pearce was my boss in my first sales management job. Early on, he told me, with a smile, "Troy, your job is to make me look good." He had a point, too. See, Darren also had people that he reported to, and those people had expectations of him - so he had expectations of me, and I had expectations of my people. Were we all happy with each other 100% of the time? Nope. I know that there were times that I annoyed the hell out of him, and a few that he annoyed me. And I know that my people felt the same about me and vice versa. But you know what? Without Darren's guidance, mentorship, an occasional ass-kicking, and eventually friendship, I know that I wouldn't be where I am today. Whether that's good or bad, you're welcome to make your own judgement on. There were others, too. I don't think they're with us anymore, but Larry Briggs and R.E. Henley were difference makers in my career. Were there some bad ones? Hell, yes. One in particular helped me in my management career - I did the opposite of what he did and it usually worked! But LinkedIn (and Facebook and every other social media network) is flooded, every day, with posts about bad bosses and bad leadership, and the like. And I wonder how many of those posts are written by people who have failed those bosses repeatedly. There was another message in what Darren told me, too, and you should take it to heart. Know how your role contributes to the overall health of your company, and ask yourself if you are truly fulfilling that contribution. And then maybe understand when the boss holds you accountable or asks a little extra of you. Or, start your own business and show us how it's done. I know this post probably won't get nearly as many likes, views, and "attaboys" as the ones about bad leadership - but I hope it makes an impact on someone. #badbosses #badleaders #leadershipdevelopment

Many leaders in the corporate world go by the philosophy "Do as I say, not as I do"! Setting a personal example seems alien to them, making life difficult for those who work under them.🙄   When leaders do not hold themselves to the standards they expect from others, resentment sets in. Employees get frustrated by the double standards and either do just enough to keep their jobs (quiet quitting) or are itching to leave.   It's difficult, if not impossible, to change others, and changing your boss is perhaps the hardest challenge of them all! So you'll have to start looking at the options available to you. Do you look for other opportunities within the company, do you search for jobs outside, or do you just resign yourself to the situation...these are questions that might be swirling in your mind. Analyzing these options and designing a road map of actions is what would be needed if you want things to change.   If you're in the unenviable position of working with a boss who drives you up the wall, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.
