Businesses and financial institutions are uniting and calling on governments to provide the regulatory certainty they need to transform their operations and supply chains 🌱 This is our window to build a thriving, #NaturePositive, #NetZero and equitable economy. Businesses cannot address the challenge of nature and biodiversity loss alone and voluntary business action is not enough. The Business for Nature coalition has published five high-level recommendations and 20 detailed policy asks for governments to accelerate the action needed on #Nature. The policy recommendations call on governments to urgently adopt policies to: 🌎 Make sure business and finance protect and restore nature 🌎 Ensure natural resources are used and managed sustainably to reduce negative environmental impacts 🌎 Value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure 🌎 Align all financial flows to a transition to a nature-positive, net-zero and equitable economy 🌎 Adopt/strengthen ambitious global agreements to address key nature loss challenges This is an urgent appeal to governments for their immediate leadership to strengthen the policies, incentives and legislation that will drive the necessary business action to halt and reverse #NatureLoss this decade. 🔗 Read the policy recommendations: https://lnkd.in/dYcJkbA

🌎 How can governments and the private sector repurpose nature-negative investments - and scale up investment in nature? Last year, UN Environment Programme released their annual State of Finance for Nature report, tracking finance flows to nature-based solutions (NbS) and comparing them to the finance needed to help tackle climate, biodiversity and degradation challenges. A key finding emerged from the report: nature-negative finance flows were estimated at a whopping US$7 trillion per year. In order to effectively tackle this, the report outlined the following key recommendations: 🌱 Greening finance – Reducing public and private nature-negative finance flows 🌱 Financing green – Scaling public funding and private investment into NbS 🌱 Green and inclusive financial systems – Ensuring a just transition to a green and inclusive financial system for vulnerable groups, women and Indigenous Peoples 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dhZjFa86 #NatureIsEveryonesBusiness

What is missing in this simplified #BalanceSheetofNature is: What are the existing #naturalcapital ? they are assets! As long as they are not recognized, there is no initiative to protect and there will be no motivation to create more, except must-#legally and #governancedriven. Not to mention is the #indigenous group, who have been maintain and protect them for generations. #indigenousculture and #ecologicalsense in maintaining Natural Capital, should be honored, appreciated and not "#subsidized"!

this is a perfect illustration of a need to mainstream climate action and SDGs through regulation, taxation and fiscal incentives to make nature negative activities simply unprofitable, too risky and expensive. Market won't correct itself fast enough without active, progressive state interventions. This is why in my end of the year blog I talked about the need to stop focusing only on the finance labelled as development and/or climate finance which is intended (but not even delivered), at best, 3-4% of global capital and instead - we need to talk about 105 trillion $ global GDP. Unless we redefine what, where, how, why can be produced, created, traded, reused etc, the change will be too slow and probably too late. https://lnkd.in/eHZnhjnx

Private finance flows with negative nature impacts stands at US$5 trillion - 140 times larger than private investments into nature-based solutions. Public finance subsidies that harm nature have increased 55% to US$1.7 trillion in the past year, despite many countries committing to reduce nature harms. If you want to know the values of a country, a city, a business, or a home, just look at its budget. Look closely at what we choose to spend money on. “Nature-based solutions are dramatically underfunded. Annual nature-negative investments are over 30 times larger than financing for nature-based solutions that promote a stable climate, and healthy land and nature.
