Investment in your own development is always a valuable exercise. Completing UQ Ventures Strategic Doing Practitioner Course on my annual leave no less was definitely worthwhile. A well defined and tested process and suite of tools to support strategic collaboration.

This week we present Dan Josefsberg, Chairman of the Board of Nosa Plugs since 2023. Tell us about yourself! My driving force is to make companies reach their full potential. I am passionate about innovation, value creation and how to make things happen in a company. I work as an Operating Partner in a Private Equity company, with tasks that are very similar to what I do as chairman of Nosa. Privately, I am a committed soccer dad and a newly-acquired tennis enthusiast. Tell us about your background! I have a degree in economics from Lund, and have worked in a number of different industries in an international environment in leading positions for over 25 years. I have worked both in large companies but also in more entrepreneurial contexts. I bring both of these experiences with me into my role as Chairman of Nosa. Why did you choose to get involved in NOSA? I think that Nosa has developed an extremely exciting platform on which there is great innovation and business potential. The commitment of the team led by Adrian has also impressed me. In addition, it is extremely exciting to work with products that really make a difference in many people's lives, which Nosa does and will do even more in the future if we do the right things. How do you contribute to NOSA? I lead the board's work and work closely with the CEO as a sounding board. Nosa is a small company with big ambitions and the need to constantly prioritize and manage strategic route selection issues. I am therefore very happy that we have a very committed and active board. I also believe that I contribute a large dose of energy, strategic thinking and business acumen to take Nosa to a new level. #investment #nosaboardmembers

Today is #SocialMobilityDay and here's why it's important to me ⬇️ I come from a proud family of grafters - my dad ran a small camera shop for 30 years. He worked 6 days a week until his late 60s, and this was supplemented by my mum working in supermarkets, cleaning, and caring throughout my childhood. I went to public school and genuinely did not even think about what I was going to do for a career - I just knew I would be working hard. 'Careers" weren't really talked about - apart from taking some random job generator in IT - it was just get these kids through their exams and (hopefully) into college. I did get into college and then scraped through to University in London. For me this was overwhelming - I was learning alongside people who had travelled from all over the world and seemed so much more worldly and confident than me. At this point I had only been on a plane twice. Then, despite a first-class degree in journalism, I couldn't afford to work an unpaid internship to get my foot in the door. I worked all the way through university and I was still barely getting by with my overdraft. I didn't know anyone who worked in media or journalism - or even worked in London. Nobody in my family did. So I had to leave London, move back in with mum and dad, and take a job in a call centre. I am in a great career now - the result of a couple of smart, and lucky, job opportunities. I'm in London and in a successful corporate environment, but I still get the fear I am not educated or eloquent enough. ✨ This is why social mobility day is important ✨ ❌ What you know should matter more than who you know. ❌ Unpaid internships are the devil and exclude some of the most hardworking people! ❌ Confidence is critical to social mobility - how do we help young people build it?
