Yesterday was "continuing education day!" I attended a seminar on communicating the value of security investments, facilitated by ASIS International. This is a constant discussion amongst my peers on how to communicate to colleagues from other functions within adidas on what we do and why. Security and risk are not particularly exciting subjects. They often have a negative connotation attached to them. Humans inherently do not like to talk about risk. The takeaway from the seminar was a confirmation of what I suspected...there is a lack of understanding by budget holders re. security and risk. Therefore communicating the value of security investments, the value of event risk and crisis management, is fundamental to securing the support required to activate these aspects in an effective way.
