Man. Even Bumble can’t get allyship right But you know what makes me curious? Even in a world of corporate signoffs, things that are tone deaf or completely miss the point still make it to the public realm. That good old undermining women’s autonomy is alive and kicking, even from brands that align themselves with women’s empowerment. But when it comes to single individuals, we are left to our own checks and balances. No comms team, copywriters or exec teams. This is important, as allies, both active and aspiring, will make mistakes, get things wrong and say things that have an unintended impact. I’d go as far to say if you’re not at risk of making mistakes, you’re not active enough as an ally or challenging the status quo. There isn’t an excuse for a lack of self education. But we do all start as beginners in the lived experience of others. When you do make a mistake, it’s how you respond that says everything about who you are, where your focus is, and what you stand for. If you get called out Don’t say It was just a joke Whoa, why so sensitive? You didn’t understand what I said I don’t see why you’ve got upset That’s just the way I am You must have imagined it Everyone always get offended so easily It’s just a small thing, why are you bothered? Do say: I’m listening. I appreciate you highlighting this. I’m continuing to unlearn and relearn. I’m sorry. I’m going to consider the impact of my actions and how I can be better. I’m going to reflect on what you’ve said and come back to you I apologise, that wasn’t my intention. I’ve got some work to do to improve. Don’t double down. Do open up. When you make a mistake: Be humble, like Bumble. People remember how you responded. And true allyship is a learning journey, not a one off certificate.

Reddit is the most underutilized tool for product / consumer research and marketing It’s where you can find the most honest commentary from motivated humans (consumers) with real problems There’s an “eat cheap and healthy” subreddit with 9 million (!) members, the cooking subreddit has 4 million members, and a Costco Wholesale subreddit has 700k members Or you go more niche like r/Celiac which has 63k members but has people with super acute / existential problems (I have celiac and love checking this one out) It takes time and resources to garner good intel - you need to basically immerse yourself in the platform and become “one” with the community But you can find out a ton of useful info and of course organically talk about your product Great job for an intern ! Recently, I've noticed an interesting trend: my lighthearted meme posts are receiving far more likes than the projects I've poured my heart and soul into. This disparity has left me feeling a mix of disappointment and confusion. It’s disheartening to see the hard work and dedication I’ve invested in meaningful projects overshadowed by fleeting humor. Each project represents not just a task completed, but a piece of my passion and commitment to my craft. While I appreciate the laughter and connections that come from sharing memes, I can’t help but wish for the same recognition for the work that truly matters to me. I believe that every piece of effort deserves to be seen and valued, and I hope to cultivate an audience that appreciates the depth of my work as much as the lighter side of my personality. Ultimately, this experience reminds me of the importance of perseverance and authenticity. I am committed to sharing my journey, both the serious and the silly, in hopes of inspiring others to recognize the value of hard work and meaningful contributions. Today is the 11th of July. So, here are 11 things you probably didn't know about me: 1. I love Jesus and he's my source everyday. 2. I got my first job at 16 (Capitalism? Been dealing since the teens 😅) 3. One of the best decisions I feel like I've made in my life was taking a gap year after secondary school. 4. Community management is my forte. Add a sprinkle of Communications, Strategy and all things Digital and Digital marketing and I'm game. 5. I currently work at LOOMO INC as a Communications Associate. 6. I spent 6 years in University instead of 4 years. Thanks to ASUU strike! 7. I am multifaceted. What that means is I can come off as a generalist and struggle to specialize because I can and always want to do many things. Though, I'm learning how to express each part of me per season. 8. I actually enjoy talking about and analyzing football more than I actually spend the time watching. (Messi over C Ronaldo everyday) 9. I enjoy email marketing, and I have a personal newsletter and community newsletter (link in comments) 10. I am building The Destiny Nwebe Crib , a community making resources and opportunities accessible to youths all around the world 🌎 11.
